Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby and the beach

We are taking our 7 month old to the beach for the first time in 3 weeks.  As I get my list together of what to pack (yes, I am a list girl) I am freaking out as to what to take for DD.  Can you all give me suggestions??  Do I carry her diaper bag to carry her things on the beach?  What do I need to carry in her bag???

Any suggestions would be great!!!  Thanks in advance!!

Re: Baby and the beach

  • I took DD1 at the same age for the first time. I brought sunblock, a blanket, an umbrella, some toys, a few towels, mum mums/puffs to enjoy and she had a pretty good time. She was crawling, so really she just thought it was fun to rush off the blanket to eat sand.

    She had sand EVERYWHERE.

  • I would use a separate bag instead of your diaper bag so you wouldn't end up with sand in your diaper bag. Also a suggestion I found on pinterest, I would take baby powder. It's supposed to remove sand from your skin. :)

  • Take a different bag, towel, huge blanket, safe sunblock, hat, umbrella since sun is evil :, a few toys. Not much. Avoid the peak hours, we always take the young kids down after 4. And ditto baby powder, it's been a staple in my bag for years. Sprinkle it on, brush it off with the sand.

  • Yeah we are Gingers so we LOVE the shade and sunscreen.  I should buy stock in sunscreen.  I'm just scared I'm going to need something I didn't bring.  She isn't crawling yet but she is wild!!!  I know it is going to be different than pre-baby but I am excited.  Thanks for the suggestions!  If anybody has anything else to add please feel free.  I need all the help I can get.

  • We went to the beach when DD was that age.  I took a small inflatable pool, she loved splashing around in it.  And, I got a beach tent.  It had a bottom, and she took her morning nap in it on the beach every day.  It was awesome to have!

Also, I agree with all PP suggestions.

  • I wouldn't take the diaper bag just because of the sand factor. Put things in plastic ziplocs inside your beach bag. Sunscreen, hat, toys, towels, bottles, maybe a spray bottle of water to keep cool, diapers, lots of wipes. If you have a tent or big umbrella that would be ideal.

  • I agree with the baby pooldd loved it and I just filled it with ocean water and left it under the umbrella... But I'd also bring a neat sheet of sorts to put under it bc she splashed water everywhere and then the sand around it stuck to everything!

Also a plastic wagon is great for taking all the beach stuff in one trip and depending on how well LO I'd sitting up, it can also be a way to carry them around or a place for a nap if you line it with folded towels

  • We just took our LO for the first time when she was 6.5 months... Definitely baby powder to get the sand off! And we brought her baby tub to fill with water and keep under the umbrella, she splashed around and had a good time. I used Neutrogena's baby sun block (not sun screen) and it worked great. And of course, keep a hat on baby and bring food and you should be good. She got a little upset after her diaper was a wet for a while when she was in the tub, but we changed her and had her hanging out on the blanket and she was good to go. Good luck! :)
