A friend on FB posted about how her 3yo daughter has an imaginary bff. She said this friend goes every where with them- at the park today, she had to tell a little boy that he had to wait his turn to use the swing Bc the imaginary friend was using it.
Am I the only one that thinks it ridiculous to not let the little boy use the swing?! Everyone was posting about how cute it is that her daughter has an imaginary friend, nothing about making a boy wait until a ficticious kid got off a swing.
Would it bother you if someone told your child he had to wait his turn even if there was no one on the swing? Wwyd if that was your kid?
Re: Say wha?
This is my thinking too. Or I would make my Ds take turns with the IF instead of making some other poor kid wait...
OK this is how I felt too! I'm all for imaginary play, Ds and I play pretend games all the time! But "annoyingly indulgent" hit the nail on the head for me when another kid has to wait.
Meh, I'd probably give the empty swing a few pushes then tell DD time to let the little boy have a turn. We all need to learn to wait in life too. I wouldn't make him wait more than about 3 pushes of the swing though. Definitely not something to get my fur up about. If I was the little boy's mom, I'd probably just think it was cute as long as they didn't drag it out too long.
My playground pet peeve is when parents let their kids clog up the slides by lounging at the bottom or climbing up them backwards. They completely ignore the line of kids waiting to go down and it turns into a giant pile up at the bottom.
Having the IF is very cute, but I'd do the same as LaurelBee - make DS take turns with the IF instead of some other kid.

Hi! I was wondering where you went
I see it constantly. But I live in a highly populated area where the playgrounds are always hoppin'. This usually happens on the twisty slide.
This. Mom was pushing daughter and IF on separate swings, using up 2 swings
If a little girl looked at me and said, "No she can't swing there. My imaginary friend is using it.", I would smile, and say, "Imaginary friend is all done with the swing" and put my kid in it.
Yay! I miss me some WP
