Two Under 2

How do you reach?

DS has just started standing (and jumping!!) in the crib so we dropped it to the lowest setting.. Our crib only has 3 settings.. The middle one put the railing just below chest level when DS stood, so too close for comfort as far as center of gravity is concerned.. So, lowest setting it is... But, how the h*ll am I supposed to reach to put him in!! I tried to put him down for bed tonight and like half dropped him a good 2 inches because I couldn't get low enough.. I put a small step stool, but didn't feel confident holding DS and leaning over on that... DS is too little for me to just put him in standing/sitting and then tell him to lay down... So, what's the alternative? My belly is just too much in the way... Not to mention leaning over and putting the pressure on my belly made me half pee myself!! So, what did you do??

  • Are you putting him down already asleep? By this time I put my kids to bed awake, so they were either standing or sitting and they laid down themselves.  I didn't have any trouble that way.

  • No, he goes down awake... I jus figured if I put him in sitting he'd think it's playtime not bedtime... It doesn't really matter I guess since he just started sitting up in the crib anyway.. He's been a slow bloomer so far!! These past few days he's just realized that he can sit up and then pull up to standing in the crib! Prior to that, all he'd do is roll/crawl around lol.  He never realized he could do those things in the crib, not just on the floor!! I guess I will try just putting him in sitting tomorrow and see what happens!

  • I had the same issue. Our daughter was born when our son was 10 1/2 months old so he was still pretty young when I had a big belly in the way.

I just had to start sitting him up in the crib and then sort of leaning him down to fall asleep.  It was hard though.

  • I can still just about lie DS down, but it is getting hard, mostly I put him in sitting down and he will flop down (he is older though), and ask him to stand up when getting him out, as I can't pick him up from lying down any more.

I also thought about a stand but I would worry about falling.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • We have one of those banned drop side cribs. I got it hand me own from a friend and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It makes it so easy to reach in and put down baby then raise the side and they're securely trapped until they learn to climb.

  • I kinda hold them different.  So I end up holding one thigh and the middle of the shoulders I guess.  In any case, some of the kid touches the bed before the rest of him.  He rolls over with his kitty any way and then I put his covers on him.  It's not a 'drop' per se but it's also not a cradled put down ;-)

  • I'm 5'3" on a tall day.

I kept a small stool under the crib and pulled it out with my toes to step on and put him in.
