As far as when you last ate and all that? do they try to hold off labor until its been 8 hours since you last ate and then do a cesection? Do they just do one??
TIA

With my dd they did it right away because she was in distress. I ate at 10 and had a csection at 2. They were going to do it at 12 but they decided to wait until my dr arrived sine they found the baby's heart beat on the monitors. I'm not sure what the procedure would be otherwise.
I have wondered this as well. I am scheduled for my section, but wasn't sure about the protocol if I went into labor before that. Glad this post is making me remember to ask doc this week!
I didn't but a girl I know did. Her water broke the day before her scheduled cs. She went right in and had the baby the same day. i don't think they were waiting for anything or posponing. But then her baby was breech (as was mine) so they prob didn't want to risk him starting to go down into the birth canal...
My water broke an hour after I ate Thanksgiving dinner. DS was born four hours later. They gave me anti-nausea meds in my IV and I was fine. So I don't know about anywhere else, but I was stuffed like a turkey and they didn't wait any longer than it took to test to make sure my water had broken and assemble a surgical team. I was a VBAC candidate and DS was not in distress, so they could have made me wait if they had thought it was necessary, but they just went ahead with it.
DD born 10/10/07 * DS born 11/25/11 * #3 due 3/9/2015
I think it depends on the situation. If I go into labour they'll have to do the C right away as I'm not allowed to labour. Too much risk of rupture.
Obviously in situations where baby is in distree they go in right away also, but if there isn't a risk to waiting I imagine they try to.
My son was breech and my section was scheduled at 39 weeks, but I started having small contractions at 38 weeks and 1 day. They didn't start until like 2-3pm...therefore I had clearly eaten throughout the day.
I just went to the hospital and they put me in the triage to check if they were really contractions...they were and they admitted me at about 6pm. It wasn't an emergency situation b/c my contractions were so far apart and I had made no progress....so no rush. Other emergency sections were going on, so I didn't have mine until 10pm that night. DS was born at 10:22pm. They don't hold you off if it is an emergency though...they knew I had eaten. Right before I walked back to the OR I got a "shot" of some kind of med that kept me from getting sick.
It was no big-deal. It the baby has to come out right away...they will do it right away, if not they will wait until need be.
Good luck!

It would depend on why you are having a c/s. 1st pg my ob said she would have let me "attempt labor", but it never happened. Second it would not have been safe to labor for any time so I would have had a c/s immediately. This time I will not be allowed to labor as well.
I had a scheduled c/s with ds2 and went into labor two weeks early. As soon as the nurse confirmed it was real labor, she called the dr and they scheduled me right away. The nurse asked me several times how much I had eaten for breakfast and when my last meal was. However, from overhearing her phone conversations with the dr and OR staff, it seemed to me that when I actually went into the OR depended a lot more on when my dr was available in case there were more pressing patients and when the OR was available. It ended up being a few hours more. My water broke at 8:03am. Got to the hospital by 10am. DS was born at 3pm. I got to labor with no meds for a few hours which is exactly what I wanted (yes, I"m crazy!). It was an awesome experience and the most exciting day of my life!
