We've been putting him in it since he hit 12 weeks. The kid is freakishly strong and has great head and body control. He was holding his head up as soon as he was out of the womb. We do have to put a pillow under his feet because he's a wee bit too short.
I started to try it as soon as he got enough head control around 3 1/2 months, but now that he can sit up (6 months) he likes it much more. He wasn't too nuts about it for more than 10 minutes at the beginning, but now he hangs out in it for an hour at a time.
We started putting our son in his at about 3 months because he has really good head control. but we put blankets in it around so he didn't flop around and hurt himself. we also put a box under it so he could bounce up and down. since he was about 2 months old he always wanted to stand up not sit down so this is perfect. he's almost 6 months now, and he still loves it:)
You really are not supposed to put babies in them until they are closer to sitting up on their own. It's not just about head support, but trunk support.
My dd had to go to PT for torticollis. While there, the PT talked about how bad the exaursaucers are for babies that are younger and have not gained proper trunk support yet.
