How does this work?

We are considering going to a reproductive specialist. I'm trying to find one with extended hours and it doesn't look like the clinic we are looking at is affiliated with the same hospital as my OB. Does that matter? Not really sure how this process works. Does the specialist get me pregnant and then I go back to my OB? or does the specialist become my new OB? I really like my OB and she delivered my first baby. Also, my OB's hospital and office are both less than 5 mins from my house.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Re: How does this work?

  • Most RE will take you to week 8 or so after you are pregnant. Then you go to your ob. It does not matter if they are part of the same hospital but it might help in terms of sharing info.

Most clinics do not have extended hours, I have found but good luck.

    Best of luck

  • Your RE doesn't need to be affiliated with your OB. Mine OB recommended RE to me and RE's mom goes to my RE... that's their affiliation. :)

Your RE will conduct more thorough tests than OB to come up with a plan of action. RE will help to get you pregnant and then send you off before the end of the first trimester as OP said. (My RE was formerly an OB and I wish I could keep her as mine, but no such luck :)

I don't know about extended hours, but I'm pretty sure most RE's come in as needed. So if your procedure was time sensitive, they would be sure to come in for you at that that time Good luck!
