My13 month old son is ALWAYS hungry! Whenever he sees someone eating he wants to have some. You can't eat in front of him without him basically "begging" for food. Its not like he isn't well feed...he eats a lot at meals and usually has 3 meals a day! DH and my in-laws will normally give him an animal cracker or graham cracker as a snack when they have a snack or have to eat infront of him. I am just sick of him getting so many animal crackers and graham crackers everyday!
I am looking for some good healthy, easy snack ideas. I like that he can take a cracker and not get that messy and eat i on the go. Any ideas??
Re: Healthy snack ideas
Make healthy stuff ahead of time, keep it in the freezer, and have it when you need it:
- muffins or oatmeal cookies or pancakes (yes, you can make all of them tasty even when they're super healthy)
- hummus and veggies (carrots, cucumber, bell pepper)
- cheese or peanut butter on a rice cake (dd was eating them at 13mo, but it may vary with your child)
- apples dipped in peanut butter (again, dd was eating them by that age, but it may vary)
- dried fruit
- beans (just straight up beans, out of a can if necessary)
At home for snacks we do a lot of fresh fruits, baked carrots, cucumber slices, cheese cubes, crackers, pieces of meat or nitrate free lunch meat, rice chex, bread or crackers with cashew butter, homemade meat balls, etc.
We are super picky eaters in general, all organic, non-GMO & vegetarian. Some of DD favorites are:
dehydrated fruits and veggies
pita and hummus (messy!)
curried garbanzo beans
string cheese or cubed cheese
any type of fruit or veggie (though blueberries and peas are favorites in the snack cup that way she can roam around and eat)
baked tempeh cut into strips
polenta slices with cheese melted on it
mini veggie muffins (I make them ahead of time, freeze them and defrost as needed)I make these a lot. DD LOVES them (and so does my husband). The recipe makes a lot of muffins so I usually just freeze some of them for later.

I make these for my son (and freeze them), but I reduce the sugar to 1/8c.

Those look awesome! DD loves spinach. I think I'll make some of these this weekend.

^^^I also want to know the veggie muffin recipe!
And thanks to PP's who posted the other recipes. I'm definitely going to try them out!
We've been doing a lot of fruit lately. My guy is really into peaches and honeydew right now.
Other healthy snack ideas:
frozen peas/corn/edamame/bell pepper slices
freeze dried fruit
banana chips
raisins/dried apricots/dried papaya
jerky
nuts
hummus - he eats it plain, dips his finger in it
cheese
My 17 month old is the same about eating. He is constantly eating.
For snacks we do:
dry cereal, dry flavored waffles, yogurt, banana, applesauce (You can get the pouches for on the go. He also likes the mixed fruit and veggie pouches.), cheese, poptarts, granola bars, pb sandwich, bologna and cheese cut up, baked goods
