Uppababy Vista

So, after pretty much settling on the City Mini GT, I'm now going back to thinking the UB Vista is the way to go. I live in NYC and it's EVERYWHERE, which makes me think, can all these people be wrong? It must work for NYC moms ... right?

My concerns are being able to fold it if I need to get it into a cab myself (and have the baby in the car seat, strapped in the back seat) and whether the size will get in the way if DH and I want to go to a bar or a restaurant or something. The City Mini GT seems much easier to squeeze in places w/the one wheel in front instead of two.

UB Vista users -- tell me what you like/don't like about the stroller? TIA.

My mom has the GT and I have the Vista.  I definitely like the Vista better.  The GT is still about as wide as the Vista so you aren't really saving space.  However, the fold on the GT is easier.  I personally love the Vista basket, canopy, reversible seat and fold wasn't a huge issue for me so it's been great for us.  If fold is your most important priority, then you might want the GT but otherwise I would do the Vista.

The GT is 44 inches long and 24.5 inches wide.  The Vista is 25 inches wide and 39 inches long so really it's actually shorter.

  • I got an amazing deal ($350) for an almost brand new one on craigslist. The bassinet portion was still in the box with the tags because the baby was too big for it when the last parents purchased it. We our expecting our first in July so I haven't used it with a baby yet, but I can tell you that it is big, even folded up. We have a decent sized 3 bed room house and it seems to take up a lot of space, like half the nursery ahahah. Also, it barely fits through a door way which I image would be hard in NYC. Other than the size, it it perfect. We mainly bought it for our nightly neighborhood dog walks and our road trips out of town. I don't plan on lugging it around to the grocery store, or church or any "quick" trips like that. I read lots of reviews and people seem to love it, so that's what sold me.

Very helpful, thanks. I don't see the fold being a major issue. When I have to take the LO to the pediatrician in a cab, I can probably just carry the car seat only if I'm taking a cab ... or use the carrier if I'm feeling brave and taking public transportation!

What is it about the Vista that you like better?

  • What about the Cruz? it is a little bit smaller and it looks so awesome. Or the Versa? Also so sleek.

I've actually read several bad reviews of the Cruz, and pushing it around the store it doesn't feel nearly as solid as the Vista (or even the City Mini GT), and that's important to me being in NYC and dealing w/city sidewalks, the park right outside my building, etc. Appreciate the suggestion, though!

I also don't think the Cruz can accept the rumble seat or the skateboard attachments if you want to use it for two kids down the line, which seems like a nice option to have ...

I personally just don't like 3 wheel strollers.  I tipped my mom's GT with DD in it while she was napping.  I think this is user error related but I won't buy a 3 wheel for myself.  I also LOVE the basket on the Vista and I really value the reversible seat.

I agree with a PP that the Versa could be awesome for you.  It's kinda of the best of the Vista and City Mini combined.

  • With my first we lived in NYC and there is seriously no way alone you will be able to get your child out of the seat alone and hold them while closing the stroller if you're using the seat. With the bassinet you can place it next to you. If you take the baby out and then put them in a carrier and wear them while you fold that would work. But without the use of both hands it isn't possible. That is why we got a Bugaboo because I could put the seat right next to me with the baby in it since it stands freely.
  • i live in manhattan too.... ubv is great for walk around the park and the city..reversible seat is very important for me too. but it is tooo much for subway and buses and i keep an umbrella stroller(quinny yezz) for that purpose

Thanks, ladies. How does anyone get the baby to/from the pediatrician's office if you and the LO are by yourselves? Just take the carseat itself into a cab? This is getting stressful, thinking about the logistics of it all!
  • I've actually been looking at the Vista vs. Cruz, although I started out loving the GT too. I "think" I've settled on the Cruz, in part b/c its so much easier to fold than the Vista but it still offers a large basket, turn around seat, large canopy and same seat size as the Vista. I didn't notice any difference in how sturdy it was - although now that I read your concern I'll go back and look. Initially I didn't like the "look" of the Cruz but it just seems like it meets my needs. While we dont live in NYC (my SO is from there so well be traveling out there quite a bit with baby) we do live in an urban neighborhood in Denver and will be walking out of our condo most days. Just a thought to give the Cruz a long hard look b/c it seems like it might meet your needs of having the perks of a larger stroller like the Vista but with an easy fold like the GT.

I compared them side by side today and in turning, maneuvering, the Vista is definitely sturdier, IMO. I also think we will get good use out of the bassinet...plus, the Cruz won't accept the  rumble seat. I don't know whether that will work for us when LO #2 comes along, but I want to have the option.

GL making your choice! I finally went for it today and bought the vista. The soft green color in the 2012 model is on sale for 599 on pish posh baby, no tax and free shipping.

Thanks to all for weighing in! Can't wait for my LO...and my Vista!

  • The vista is pretty amazing as a snap n go. I would be mostly concerned with what you will do once dc leaves the bucket seat. Convertibles would be pretty awkward in that situation.
