DH and I have a list and I think all our choices are nice names, but we are having a hard time deciding. I know it may take meeting her to make the final choice, but I'd like to go in with a couple of options instead of 10. Any suggestions for strategies you used to pick the name? Like one person I know said they got 8.5x11" pieces of paper and wrote the full name out and stuck it around the house so they saw it a lot and really thought about it. Just curious if anyone has done anything similar to help hone down the list!

Re: How did you narrow down your list?
When I was pregnant with DS we narrowed it down to three and then tossed them around when talking about the baby. Eventually one stuck out more than the other two.
This time I would like to do the same...but I have a much longer list!
rate your favourites on a piece of paper say 1-10 and have DH do the same, see if your top are the same and then get rid of the last few that are the same
This is what we did, only I don't think we did 1-10 but maybe like 1-3 or 1-5 and then the overlapping highest numbers made the top choices
I imagined how it would look on a resume. I review and interview applicants frequently for my job, and I'm come across some doozey's!
DH would probably love this method!
We narrowed ours down to the FN and MN combos. Of course we looked at name meaning, popularity, intials, flow, potential NNs, and hardships with the names (misspellings, miss punuciations and grade school teasing as well to help narrow list down.)
From there we each listed out our fav combos (ours was 7 top names for boy and 10 for the girl) then went to see if we had any that were in the top 5. From there we narrowed it down a little more, (say if a name didnt make it into either of our top 5 it got trashed) Then we just started saying the name when talking to/about the baby, until we were able to cont to narrow it down. Writing it down and seeing it alot helps as well.
Good luck!
I was going to suggest this method! DH and I have a freakishly easy time picking our kids' names, but this is what we would have done if that hadn't been the case. As it was, I went to him with my favorites and he would okay them or nix them (he only nixed one).
