I'm struggling with where to place to infant and toddler car seats. Right now, my son is forward facing on the passenger side. I was thinking about keeping him there and putting the baby behind the driver (Yes, there is enough room) just because I don't think I'll be able to hand my toddler things or look back and see him if he is behind me. I don't think I'll be able to see the baby no matter where she is. Any thoughts on this from a safety/ convenience standpoint?
Re: Those with an infant and a toddler
I have five in car seats. I drive a 8 passenger 2013 Honda Odyssey.
Middle row:
Driver to passenger:
Eryn 9 months in Chaperone. She will get switched in August when we get home from Italy and Canada to a Cocoro.
Logan 2: RF in a RXT
I have removed the seat behind the passenger seat.
Back row:
Summer 7, FF in a harnessed Recaro prosport
Leah 5: FF in a RXT
Mallorie 3 months RF in a cybex aton.
this is how a tech set up my van for me. Mal, and Logan are my niece and nephew, who we have legal guardianship of. We got custody of them in February, right after Mal was born.
Leah was RF up until this point, in her RXT. It was her choice to be RF, I would have been fine with her forward facing. She would still fit RF, she is 39 pounds and 41 inches at nearly six.
I would also be fine with Summer in a booster seat, but she prefers a harnessed car seat. She weighs less than 50 pounds.
This is what we did at first. When we switched #2 to a convertible car seat, we changed her to the passenger side and #1 to the driver's side. The only reason for this is that I park on the street at home so it's important to have DD1 in a safe place (our yard) while I load #2.
And I can still see #1 in the rearview mirror behind me.
We keep the toddler FF on the passenger side and infant RF on the driver side.
We used to have the toddler in the center and the infant RF behind the driver, but my DS liked to grab and torment his little sister so we separated the seats so they can still see each other but can't reach each other. It's much more pleasant in the car now.
