When your baby is old enough will you let them use a walker? I've heard they're not safe but we received one as a gift so I'm not sure if I should return it??
As long as you keep an on the baby you will be fine. I got a walker because I am not a fan of letting my baby crawl around on the floor because we have pets so I know the walker will still strengthen her legs.
DS would probably be fine in one because i would watch him like a hawk, but the fact that they are illegal in most countries for safety reasons gets at me, so we will not buy one
Anything these days can be considered a safety hazard or dangerous. There are far too many dummies who don't watch their children properly and then have accidents or sue these companies.
As long as you have a brain and don't use any type of baby gear as a baby sitter [in other words, always be watching your child!! it's fine.
DS1 never liked one and I never bought one for that reason. My nephew on the other hand was crazy about his and was actually walking on his own by 9 months.
My in-laws have a wood floor and purchased one for DD to use. I feel perfectly fine about her using it at their house because a) she uses it down stairs so there's no way she can accidentally fall (which, btw, I totally did as a kid..I charged through a baby gate and took it and the walker down the stairs with me..my poor mom!) and b) My in-laws watch her like a hawk so she's not going to get into any danger with 2 adults giving her their undivided attention.
it is believed that the walker is not good for the baby because it teaches the baby how to walk incorrectly. however, we have one for our 5 mnth old and plan on using it. we do not plan on having him in it all day so i dont see the harm. when i was growing up (being 12 years apart) my little sister had one and she is/was completely fine!
Re: Baby walkers
Since you are concerned you could return it and get a stationary exersaucer.
I have a jolly jumper that LO uses occasionally, but she still prefers floor play.
