First timer needs help!

Hi ladies!!! I've been trying to do some research on what to buy/not buy for Baby...any moms have advice on what you couldn't live without, as well as what was absolutely useless?

I'm doing my best to buy things second-hand (except for bottles and such); any good shopping spots?

 Thanks so much!

For my boys a swing & bouncer were a must. Old school cloth diapers made the best burp cloths & small bibs that didn't have a waterproof backing were a bad idea. Surprisingly I found my high chair to be completely pointless. My son had so many other things to sit in while eating when he was at that age that it ended up being an awkward extra piece of furniture. I would also skip the nursing pillows. They are over priced, don't always fit your body & a regular pillow works just as well. If you like second hand craigslist was a life saver for me.

Awesome!  Thanks so much!  Did you cloth diaper or just use them for burp cloths?  I'm considering cloth diapering and would like to get some opinions.

I just used them for burp clothes. You can get the big packs for the old school style white ones for cheap. They are a great value & they are super absorbent. No sense spending extra money on something cute when it's main purpose is catching spit up. I've heard some good things about cloth diapering & I'd be interested in trying it but we don't have our own washer or dryer right now (the joys of apartment life).

We practically lived at Buy buy baby, way better than TrUs if you ask me. I hesitated to get an activity mat since I didn't think he'd use it until he was older but they become interested in that stuff a lot sooner than you'd think. I agree the breast pillow is not always necessary but I found that once you've grown out of using it, it's a great tummy time pillow and prop up pillow for them before they can sit up. Just make sure you get a boppy and not my breast friend I made that mistake.
Oh, and if you dont want to spend a bunch of money on a bassinet, my little one loved his rock n play. It was the only way we started getting any sleep at night. Good luck!

If I end up trying it, I'll keep everyone updated on how it goes; from what I've been reading you can literally take them off and throw them right in the washer for the first few months - no poop scooping? Sounds great to me!

Where's buy buy baby?  Any other suggestions on where to shop?  And what's the differences between a boppy and my breast friend?  My mom says she has one in storage from when my sister had her baby, not sure what brand it is.  Lol so lost and confused.  And terrified of being in charge of this little person!

I plan on cloth diapering too, I think I am going to use the Pheonix Diaper Service. They wash the diapers for you and deliver fresh ones to your door.

There are 2 buy buy baby's in the valley, that I know of. One in north Scottsdale and another in chandler. It's ran by bed bath and beyond and has practically everything you'd need for a baby.
My breast friend actually fits all the way around you and has a nice supportive surface that your baby can lay on while breastfeeding, you don't even have to hold their head really. The only problem is it's kind of big and bulky and I really only used it the first month. If I had gotten the boppy, I could have at least continued to use it for tummy time. The boppy basically looks like a big neck pillow, shaped like a U and just kind of sits around your waist, giving baby a place to lay while nursing.
Don't worry, I was TOTALLY overwhelmed too when I first started shopping. Just research and google everything and use the checklist from the bump's website. It will at least help you make sure you have the basics.
You'll be fine!! All baby really needs is love, food, and more love!

Hi there! There are soo many things you can go without but we want everything for our babies lol. Here is what I found...

One thing I really hate are baby towels! Your spending 10 - 20 dollars for a thin, hardly absorbing piece of cloth with a hood. The only time my kids ever cried after a bath was when I used a baby towel. Our towels are much bigger and warmer.

Expensive baby bedding. You can't even use the comforter for the first year and most pediatricians say to keep the bumper out of the crib. I just use a sheet and a water proof pad under the sheet.

Expensive toys. Every baby is different but I had toys my kids wouldn't even touch. This last time around I went to savers and goodwill a couple times cleaned them out of their good toys and disinfected them at home.

And anything you do want try second hand first. Baby stuff is so expensive and you only use it for a couple months. I like kid to kid and other mothers but I try savers and good will first because they are cheaper.

Here is what I love. space saver high chair, bouncer, jumperoo and boppee type pillow. I use my pack and play everyday because I co sleep and it even had a bassinet attachment that I loved.

     Hope that helped a little.

Oh my goodness ladies, thank you, thank you!  So much to think about and read up on!  Now to start slowly buying things and accumulating!

Once Upon A Child and Other Mothers are two good consignment shops in Surprise. I think they both have more locations around the valley though. I just had my baby 3 weeks ago and the items we couldnt live without are her swing, pack n play with the bassinet, the sleepers that look like dresses ( they made midnight diaper changes so much easier), lots of receiving blankets for swaddling and lots of burp clothes. we were given a boppy as a gift and i have barely used it, but i know it will get plenty of use as she gets older.
