I know this has been asked before but I can't seem to find it on the search.
I've been on the GD diet for a little 2 weeks now and all of my numbers are under the threshold except my fasting number.  It's anywhere from 93-95 and they want me to be under 90.  They suggested that I eat 6 triscuits w/ cheese at night, which I've done since last Wednesday and I can't seem to get that number below 90 I really don't want to go on medication for one little number.  Any suggestions or ideas?

I'm right there with ya. My numbers have been between 89 and 117. The ONLY morning I had a fasting less than 90 (89) I had ice cream and a cookie the night before. I've tried Greek Yogurt (2%), crackers and cheese, crackers and cottage cheese, but all those yield high fasting numbers. I'm about ready to try the ice cream and cookie again to see what happens!
When I originally met with my GD educator she didnt have any suggestions for me. I have a call in to her already and hope to get it figured out asap.
I'm on insulin and my fasting numbers are between 80-97 daily. They aren't trying to get it any lower than that. It all depends on what time I eat my snack and what it is. I have what is referred to as a "naughty liver" where it makes up for the sugar at night when I drop low.
Just stick with the diet and see what your nutritionist says. I think if you are on the borderline they tend to wait and see.

My fasting numbers have never been an issue, but just wanted to share what my nightly snacks are.
Golden delicious apple with a generous amount of peanut butter.
Graham crackers with peanut butter.
Golden Delicious apple with two slices of cheese- and I actually do the Tillamook cheeses, and not the cheese recommended by the GD counselor. I sometimes do string cheese too. I do the land-o-lakes cheeses too.
I have also had whole wheat ritz crackers with cheese.
You can also try some grapes and cheese.
Peanuts and grapes
Just to give you different options and try and change it up. I know the GD diet gets really old and you tend to stick with what you know works. I can't do pineapple, or oranges at night, my numbers tend to be higher so I stay away from them.
You can also eat your nightly snack and then go for a 30 minute walk. I usually just do house chores after the kids go to bed- it gets me moving and in a sense exercising.
I have noticed that when I eat a 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream and diet root beer (root beer float) my numbers tend to be lower then just eating those "healthier snacks." It's something to try. It also could depend on what time you are having your snack, and what time you are taking your fasting numbers.
GL. I hope you don't have to be medicated, but you might just need a little help to get your fasting numbers down.
Skinny cow works for me...also cottage cheese and a piece of fruit
