Moms of Larger Babies

What sizes are your LOs in? I cannot believe how quickly my DS is going through sizes.

At his 6 month appt, he was 20 lbs and 29 in. He's currently in size 3 diapers barely... and in 12 month or 18 month clothes, depending.

I know there are moms out there whose LOs were preemies and/or struggle with weight gain, and I definitely don't mean any disrespect or mean to be insensitive by this post. Our family and friends are constantly commenting on LOs size and refer to him as "Giant Baby", so I'm really self conscious about how big he is. I try to remind myself that he's healthy and happy, and that's all that matters.

I guess I'm hoping for a reminder that I'm not alone in the "giant" baby club...

Also, when does this growth typically slow down?!

Re: Moms of Larger Babies

  • I have a chunkalicious LO. We are In size 12 months mostly but I am finding that some summer items shorts and bathing suits fit better in 18 months. She is probably 20lbs give or take right now at 8 months. I have noticed her weight slow down down now that she is mobile which I think is the norm. We are still ebf with few solids she isn't digging them yet

  • Ds has been in the 9095 percentiles since day one. She's a chunky bug. Right now she's wearing 9 months clothes... But she was wearing an 18 month tank today. Size 4 diapers for the past couple weeks.

  • Kate's in mostly 12 month, some 18 month, and even some 2t. I don't know how much she weighs. But there's no way a baby can ever be too chunky. So the more people who tell me 'omg those cheeks, omg those rolls in her thighs', the better. The closer to Maury's 'my baby is morbidly obese' the better.

    I kid.

  • DS is wearing 18 month clothes. He weighs 23 lbs. Not sure of his length. I'm thrilled that he's healthy and thriving.

  • DS has gone up in percentiles for weight at each appt. He was in 10th at birth, 75 at 4 months, 90th at 6 month (21 pounds). He has also had a ginormous head. At his 6th month appointment his head was so large it was off the chart. His pedi sent him to get a cranial ultrasound because his head was so big he wanted to make sure he didn't have any issues. Luckily DS is fine, but I put that one in the baby book. 'At 6 months, your head was so big we had to take you to the doctor to get it checked out.' lol.

He is mostly in 18 month clothes, 12 month fit but we like his clothes to be a little roomier. He is also in size 5 diapers, it's crazy.

Ds is over 20lbs and wears 9 to 18 month clothes depending on the size of the clothing.

  • We took DS to the doctors about 2 weeks ago because he was sick... he weighed 23 pounds 3 ounces.

Right now he is in mostly 9 month clothing but it's been so warm that we have had in onesies and sizes can range from 6-9 months, 9 months or 6-12 months.

My guy has major eating issues and literally hates eating, but thankfully has maintained his giant size. He was 9.3 at birth and on my scale yesterday he was 22.9 lbs at 7 months 3 weeks. He wears mostly 18m clothes but 24m in some brands and size 4 diapers and 5's overnight. But in comparison, my daughter was close to 25lbs at this age, so we just have big babies. Fwiw, at age 4 she is now 99 in height, but only 50 for weight. She started slowing down around 18 months.

  • I love my super squishy big baby!  We just went to the doctor's yesterday for his 9 month check-up (albeit a few weeks early) and he is 27lbs. and 30 1/4" long.  We had some issues with breast-milk jaundice in the beginning and so the fact that he is a hunk of chunk that is EBF is a little source of pride for me.  As my mom jokes, he must be getting all the cream.

He is solidly in 18month clothing, but those are even getting a bit tight.  So I find myself reaching for 24month, 2T or 3T depending on what it is.  We cloth diaper, so that definitely adds some bulk on the bottom.
