Name opinions

Last time DH and I didn't agree on a name until postbirth. I totally thought if it wasn't decided prior to labor I would win, but alas DH got his legacy name for our first son, John William.

This time around I get full decision rights but I'm stuck between two same name but switched first/middle

James Hudson....insert SN
Hudson James....insert SN

We are generally traditionalists and my father's name is James...but goes by Jim, but I'm from the Hudson Valley in NY and always really like that name too. Thoughts?

Edit for clarification: screenname is my last name

I'm not a fan of sibling names having the same initials. Me and all my siblings (as well as my nieces and nephew) all have "A" names. I HATE it.

I vote for Hudson James. Love it!

  • I would prefer James Hudson, but seing that you would have matching FNs, I'd go with Hudson James.

    Agree
  • I prefer names that aren't super common or traditional, so my vote would be for Hudson James. But that's just me :-)

    This exactly

  • I'm not loving the way Hudson sounds with your last name.  It's alright, just a little clunky, IMO.
  • I love James as a fn with no nn. So James Hudson for me.

  • Hudson James flows better IMO. Although I'm not a fan of the matchy on endings of FN LN.
  • I'm superstitious and it's really bad luck to name after a living relative in my culture (basically it's akin to inviting death on your child) so my vote is for Hudson James.

  • Hmmm, I really like both names! I have always loved James though and I like the way it sounds with your last name, so my vote is for James Hudson!

I like both names! But prefer Hudson James, I live Hudson but we have a cousin named that so it was not an option for us.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone.  I agree with many of your thoughts.  James probably sounds better with my last name, but Hudson is such a great name and flows nicely with James as a middle name.  I may have to wait to meet him!

  • We were considering James for ds but we have a friend named James and his gf pointed out how awkward it is in the possesive. As in talking about James' socks. It ruined it for me. Too much es sound.
