collapsed nipple

Hey ladies, I saw in a PP someone mentioned they moved to a faster flow nipple when their LO started collapsing the nipples on the bottles. I mostly BF but every time I give bottles both my boys collapse the nipples. Also it takes 10 minutes to nurse and 30 to 40 minutes to feed a bottle. Should I stick with slow flow or should I move to Medium flow?

Re: collapsed nipple

  • I never switched from slow flow with DD, she used them until we weaned from the bottle. What tpye of bottle are you using? We started out with the Medela, but switched to one that allowed for more air to get in the bottle. These ones..

I mostly use the playtex dropins (which don't collapse) and I also use the medela bottles. Is it normal to take so much longer for a bottle than to nurse? The Medela nipples collapse in seconds.

  • Sounds like your body has a fast flow I follow the it should take as long or slightly longer to feed a bottle then to nurse so the preference is the boob... Sounds like you could go up.. It was taking my daughter 20 mins to nurse and ten for the bottle and she started preferring bottles... A lot of people will say not to increase bottle speed but in your case it's a pretty big difference

I was thinking so. It takes FOREVER to bottle feed these little guys. :)

  • With my DS he took forever to nurse and never needed a faster flow nipple. My DD is more efficient at the breast and had to go to a medium flow nipple at three months. I knew she had to go up a size when the babysitter said DD was getting frustrated with the bottle and was starting to refuse it.
