3rd Trimester

telling people induction date?

We just got our induction date!! Next Thursday! We only have told our parents and siblings. I wish I could keep it a total secret but I have a dog that needs to be looked after. My Dr. said that sometimes it can take 3 days of induction before the baby gets here! And I am not at all dilated or anything so they will have to give me medication to ripen my cervix. I am debating about telling my friends the date....If it takes days I don't want to be bombarded with questions by everyone. I will not be having my phone on or checking FB. But my husband will get all the texts....and I just don't want al that pressure of answering all these people....So those of you that will be or have had induction...did you keep it secret??

Re: telling people induction date?

  • I am a few days away from my due date but if I need to be induced I will not be sharing it.

  • I was telling my husband yesterday that if I have an induction I prefer to keep it a secret too. It's hard though but everyone women has a different labor story so wouldn't worry about the details. Uggh...the texts...asking the status makes me more anxious. My DD is tomorrow I don't explaining to people all the details. Good luck with everything :
  • I got my induction date today for next Friday when I will be 42 weeks and 1 day. I told everyone because I was already having to answer individual texts and calls for the past three weeks. Hopefully she will come before that but who knows at this point. I'm still not dilated a single cm. I figure if we set a date, tell people and plan for it she will come on her own sooner. One can hope right?

  • I was induced with my daughter and told only my parents and my husband's boss. I didnt want to hear other people's opinions about my induction so I just didnt say anything at all.

  • ::Lurking here::

    I was induced with my DD in April. DH and I didn't tell anyone until like 2 hours before we went in at midnight, but our families knew that we wanted alone time as a new family before we wanted visitors, so they waited for us to call them so they weren't standing at the door pacing around. I was induced at 6:31 am and Kennedi Faith was born 7:38pm that same night! :) Good Luck to all you new mommas!

  • If I need to be induced I will probably tell my best friend and our parents... People are so opinionated when it comes to birth I just don't want anyone's judgement or to explain why it is medically necessary (if it does become necessary). All that matters is a healthy mama and baby and that's all they need to know!

  • Heck yes I would keep it a secret. I wouldn't want the texts, calls or Facebook posts asking about progress or if the baby is here yet. I get that enough now and I still have four days til my due date. I understand telling your parents and siblings. I would do the same. But, my friend was induced today and her sis in law posted it on Facebook and tagged her and her hubby in it so everyone now knows she is in labor. People have commented and wrote on their walls and I'm sure texted them.

    Not my cup of tea, but to each their own.
  • I will be keeping it a secret.  Otherwise I think everyone would be driving us crazy with phone calls & text messages.  I'm not sure how we will keep it secret from IL's though (who will drive us crazy the most).  We will have to tell the kids (my 19 yr old will be in charge at home).  SS is super close to IL's so I doubt he will keep it a secret even if we tell him to.

    Edit: I probably will tell my mom.  She is 15 hrs away and would not be the type to call several times.
