Adoption

Anyone in NC?

We are just getting started in this process and I was wondering if there was anyone in NC that could give us some perspective on DIA.

What agency did you choose and why?

How long did it take to complete your home study?

How long did it take for a match once your home study was complete?

Re: Anyone in NC?

  • I am near Raleigh and we did DIA last year.  We went independent with an attorney for many reasons (you can PM me if you want details), we shopped around for a company to do our HS with and were aggressive so we got it done in less than 6 weeks, and we matched extremely quickly (advertising on our own with parentprofiles.com) -- we were contacted by DD's BM 2 days after activating our profile and she told us she chose us about a week and a half later.  That's not typical but I still think the route we chose was a really good one.  Good luck!

  • I am in Raleigh, but I'm a foster parent.  We are licensed through Wake County.  I'm not able to answer any of your questions, but just wanted you know that I'm close by.  If you ever consider adopting from foster care or becoming a foster parent, let me know if you have questions!
  • I'm Foster to Adopt as well.  I'm outside West of Charlotte.

  • Hi and welcome! We're in the Chapel Hill area and doing DIA, independent with an attorney.  We made many of the same choices as crene84. We checked out a couple agencies, one in NC (you can PM me if you want details), but decided we wanted to try independent first. We advertised on parentprofiles.com. We decided to give it about 6 months and re-evaluate going with an agency if we weren't seeing any response from the website. Although we didn't have the amazingly fast match that crene did (wow!), we were matched in about 4 months and right now, we're about 7 weeks out from the due date. We were also somewhat aggressive with completing our HS; it was done in 7 weeks (from initial phone call to document in hand). We were very happy with our HS provider and would recommend her (PM for details if interested).  Good luck to you!!

  • Thank you all so much for the information, I have sent PMs to both of you for more info on your agency experiences.
  • caroline - YGPM back. :)
  • We're in Charlotte. We used a facilitator out of California. But we had a local agency do our homestudy. I would be more than happy to share our experience:)
