  • I'm RH negative as well and I know my husband is positive so I will need the shot as well I'm not too nervous about it, lots of women get it. But you could opt to get the baby's father checked for his blood type because if he's negative as well then no need for the shot because baby will have a negative blood type
  • I have RH negative. Totally normal to get the shot, you get it around 28 weeks and again once baby is born. Not a big deal. It doesn't really hurt, just feels like a regular shot, no side effects. I will be getting it yet again this pregnancy and all others

    I'm not worried about it. I've read up on it and I trust my OB to do what's best for LO and I.

  • Well I just found out at my last appointment last week at 16 weeks that I am O negative all these years my mom thought I was O positive.  So I was surprised!! Same blood type as my mother and my husband is the same as my dad A+.  So yep ready for that shot!  So my mom had it with four kids and said its not big deal.  Whatever makes the baby healthy, just hoping I don't have any bleeding issues like I did in the beginning.
  • I got the rhogam shot at 8 wks because I was bleeding and they just wanted to cover all their bases but it wasn't bad at all! I got it in my hip. I remember someone telling me before I got the shot it is extremely painful and it's slow and thick like a peanut butter shot but that wasn't the case for me. So don't worry!! Everything will be fine!
  • Yep me too. I actually had one at 10 weeks then I'll get another at 28 and again after delivery. Pretty standard. What's really scary is rh disease of you didn't get it!

  • I am A- and my husband is A+ so I also have to receive the same shot at 28 weeks I am also nervous

    I got the shot twice after both of my losses. I will get it again at 28 weeks with this pregnancy. It doesn't hurt. It's important to get the shot because it can affect future pregnancies as well if you don't.

    Question::

    I see everyone talking about the child's fathers blood type..what happens if you don't know it? How will they know if you need the shot or not?
  • I had one last time when I miscarried; it's no big deal.  The blood draws they take from you for testing are more unpleasant, so if you're okay with those, this will be easy.

  • I had it for bleeding around 12 weeks and then will have another at 28 weeks. The shot itself didn't hurt at all, but i am a tiny bit nervous of potential side effects to the baby. Too much Internet research on my part and hopefully untrustworthy sites but I trust my doctor so I will continue to get the shot.
  • I'm also O- and ended up having to get the shot at around 12 weeks due to some spotting.  I have to get another one at 28 weeks and than another one post delivery if the baby is positive.  Didn't hurt, but I hate shots!
