Tea Tree Oil?

I am wondering what thoughts were on Tea Tree Oil for Acne? Ive been really lucky, i have never had a breakout,( a few minor)  untill now.. I am breaking out all over my face and chest. I try to stay away from chemicals, and was wondering about tea tree oil. I have trying to research on the internet, but its hard to say whats "for real" or not. It was the one thing I forgot to ask my doctor.

Re: Tea Tree Oil?

  • I love tea tree oil!! It's a natural antiseptic, has multiple uses, and works great! It does kind of have a bad smell though!

  • Tea Tree is fabulous for many things, acne being one of them. I personally like the smell, it's very earthy. You could always dilute it in jojoba oil to help cut the smell and jojoba oil is the oil that is most like the oil that your skin produces naturally.

  • I use a Tea Tree Oil face wash, and I think it works wonderfully.  I also have a small bottle of 15% TTO that I will put on a spot that is really broken out and it helps dry the area out.  If I put it on before bed, the pimple will be gone in the morning.

  • The jury is still out on whether or not it is considered safe for pregnancy, but most resources say there's no evidence it hurts and my doc said I'm fine to use it. I started using a tea tree oil face wash I bought from Trader Joe's and its been working well for me (and I have acne-proned skin anyway).

  • This might be a weird suggestion, but try white distilled vinegar. I know it's stinky, but once it absorbs, the smell practically goes away. I used it in my first trimester for a few breakouts & within 24 hours, my acne was less red & dried up!

Like a PP said, the smell of tea tree oil bothers me, so that's why I would rather use something that doesn't have a smell that lingers.

  • For acne you can also try using black soap. SheaMoisture has black soap products that you can find at Tartget and Walgreens.
  • Thanks so much!, Smile
  • Tea tree oil is great, just be sure to dilute it with water. I used it on some bug bites, and it made my skin break out in a rash because it's so strong.
    Good luck!
