If you don't have central air conditioning

We don't have central air conditioning and it's not an option for us to get it. The temperature in DS's room starts out fine when I put him to bed, but then either gets too hot or too cold during the night. Then he wakes up either with goosebumps or a sweaty mess and cries because he is uncomfortable. He doesn't go back to sleep easily and is a super light sleeper. So if I sneak in to adjust the temperature (either opening or closing the window or adjusting the window AC or celining fan) he hears me, wakes up, stands up, and screams and cries because he wants to get out of the crib. I don;t understand how the temperture fluctuates so much. Literally it will go from 74 to 88 according to the video monitor and Gro Egg thermometer. How do you deal with temperature problems like this? Is there some way to regulate it that I am not realizing? TIA!

  • Get a window unit with a thermostat, that will turn off when it reaches a certain temperature

This.  We have one with a digital temperature on it and I put it on the energy saver option and set it to the temp I want.  It will turn off when it reaches that temp and turn back on when it starts to warm up in the room.

Definitely this!  I tried to blast the air conditioner before bedtime once like a pp stated but it didn't work.  His room was really warm by morning.  Definitely worth it to get something that gives you a peace of mind that they are not overheating in their sleep.

  • I keep the shades pulled and I use a fan with a cool mist humidifier.

  • I plan on getting a fan as it warms up but otherwise I put him to sleep with the door closed but when I go to sleep an hour or 2 later, I open his door.  We have a small apt though and his room is off the living room where we run an ac unit if necessary.

Last week was extremely hot in NY and I put him to sleep in just his onsie.

This is what we do, although ours doesn't turn off when it reaches that temperature. The fan stays on, but the compressor turns off.  It provides great white noise!
