New to the board and question

Hi Ladies,

We found out this morning that I am pregnant with twins! We are both so excited and we are over the moon right now with excitement.

2 heartbeats- Baby A 126 (RE was able to see that this baby was awake and eyes open). Baby B 94- sleeping from what he could see. Both babies are measuring right on schedule and right where they should be for size expected.

My RE did mention that Baby A's sac looks great but Baby B's sac was not as large. He is going to see me in 2 weeks for another u/s. Does anyone know what this could be or advice? He said there is a sac there but it doesn't look as good as Baby A's so he wants to watch it closely.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • First off, congratulations on your twins! That's amazing news!

Also, as a fellow August 2012 mom whose babies were born on the same day as your sweet angel I offer you enormous hugs. This must be a very exciting and overwhelming time for you. You'll be in my thoughts and I'll be watching for updates!

I don't have any experience with the sacs being different sizes (they may have been but no one ever mentioned it to me) but I am glad that your doctor will be monitoring you closely just in case. Congrats again on your babies and I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy, birth and beyond!

  • My Baby B's sac was always quite a bit smaller than Baby A's.  The babies themselves were always very close in size, though.  My OB just watched their sacs closely.  By the time of my NT scan (12 weeks) the u/s tech said "Oh, we don't really even look at the difference anymore.  We just measure each sac's fluid to make sure it's at a normal level."

Today, Baby B is 10 months old and staring at me from his high chair as he eats a mum mum.  Smile

  • Congrats and I'm so sorry about your loss :(

I'm skeptical of your RE.  An embryo (which is what it is at 6w) does not have eyes to open or sleep/wake cycles.  I don't know why they would even say something like that to you....  As for sac size, I know of many people who have had different sized sacs and had healthy twin pregnancies.  Best of luck!  Keep us posted :)

and this except it was my baby A who had the smaller sack and the is 14 months old and just went down to bed.

  • I can give you some advice on the small sac. I'm currently 11 weeks with my twins and baby B had little to no fluid from the start to the point baby B's gestational sac was 3 weeks behind the growth of the actually baby he/she ha no room and almost couldn't make out it was a baby aside from the heart beat. At our 10 week u/s baby b began to regain fluid and is now only two weeks behind he was bouncing around and wiggling an still alive!! They won't know for sure why it could be that this baby has no kidneys or won't be able to develop right but MAKE SURE TO DRINK UNTIL YOU PHYSICALLY CAN'T!!! It will help lots I have talked with countless moms who had this and fluid intake can increase that so much but relax stay off google if my baby can make it with three week difference in sac size yours can too. I can post my US pictures from week 6,7,8,10 so you can compare if you want : congrats!! And remember fluids and no google!!

Baby B only fell behind in growth sac wise never size wise also if there is a heartbeat chances of B disappearing drop a ton

  • Thank you Ladies! You all made me feel so much better! I will be resting as much as I can and drinking lots of water and fluids. If we could have twins, I would be beyond happy and feel like I am living in a dream. I am 34 and since the loss of my DS, my DH and I would love to have 2 children here with us. If I could do that with twins, we will feel so very blessed and beyond excited.

I appreciate the input, I will be taking a deep breath and stepping away from google. Also spending all my time downing water until I can't drink anymore. I look forward to getting to know you all!

My DH and I were discussing when I got home last night. I wasn't paying attention like I should after I heard that there are 2 babies in there. My DH said he took it as my RE was joking. I am glad he was there with me and helped me make sense of this because I was so excited.
