I was scheduled to be induced on Wednesday yesterday due to gestational hypertension, but LO had different plans. Late Monday night, I started having contractions. They kept me up most of the night, but were not frequent and I figured they were BH. At around 4am I began to time them and they were getting more regular, about 10 minutes apart. They were getting pretty painful as well, so I realized that I might get my wish to have an unmedicated birth.
Although I was reluctant to call, DH insisted that I call my OB office when they opened at 9am and see what they wanted me to do. As I expected, they told me to labor at home until my contractions were 5 minutes apart and/or my water broke.
So, for several more hours I labored at home and my contractions were still 9 minutes apart but getting way more intense. I took a bath to try to relieve the pain, and thought my water broke in the tub. We headed off to LD around 4pm.
Turns out that my water had not broken, but I was not discharged because I was 8cm dialated! OB was amazed at my progress considering my contractions never were more frequent than 9 minutes before that point.
30 minutes after arriving, my water broke. I was 9 cm dialated for a couple of hours, still only having contractions every 8 or 9 minutes until 6pm when they began to come every 5 minutes. By 7:30 pm, I begged nurse to let me start pushing.
My OB was in another room delivering another baby and wanted me to wait, but I had the urge to push and was not going to wait. I started pushing at about 8pm. After 10 minutes, OB comes in and rushes to get ready. He didn't have much time, but was able to catch baby.
Caroline Ruth was born at 8:21 pm on June 4th! We are thrilled to join Team Pink! She was 6lbs 3oz and is 19.5 inches long.
I am thrilled that I got the unmedicated birth I wanted! I would post pics but we are still at hospital and I still haven't figured out how to add photos to post, but will try to when we get home.
