On a good note AW

DS takes art lessons weekly and his art teacher invited him to participate in a fundraiser for UNICEF at the United Nations building in NY. He will display one of his paintings and sell cards of a few of his paintings. And we can get security badges to go and see it. It is actually a bazaar being hosted by the Malawi Ambassadors wife. I told DS that we can go early and just stay for a little bit and drive home so he will only miss part of half day Kindergarten. I am super excited for him because his Art teacher is only asking a few students because she has limited spots and DS is her youngest. BUT, DS said he does not want to miss school!!! Call me crazy but I want him to miss an hour of school so he can see his art displayed and sold at the freaking UN. I won't force him to miss shool though so I have a few days to convince him it is ok and he will only miss the bus and their reading and will be there for everything else so it is ok!

  • That sounds like an awesome opportunity! Does his KG teacher know? Maybe if she mentioned it to him, and said it was exciting, he would feel more ok with missing a little school?

  • I think his concern is that he just missed four days for vacation and missed fun stuff but nothing fun is going on that day and it is five days before the last day of school.

  • Wow thats amazing! Such a great achievement for such a little guy. And its even more amazing that he is that concerned about missing school. I would talk to his teacher about it and maybe she could reassure him that its ok and he won't miss anything important.

  • That's awesome. I would definitely take him up there. He might not appreciate it now but much later in his life, it might be more important to him.

How cool!! You'll have to post a picture of his painting :)

  • This is amazing! What an honor. I would maybe ask his teacher to tell him that he won't miss anything fun at all, and that he should go see his art display.
Will the cards be for purchase online?

Only at the bazaar. I wonder if there is a way to set it up to raise more money straight for UNICEF? I will have to look into that!

I saw the teacher quickly at the school today and she laughed and looked at me like I was nuts when I told her but I did not feel comfortable asking her to talk to me for him since he has missed 4 days for Hing Kong and 4 days for WDW plus sick days already. After this last vacation I don't know if I am on her nerves!

  • That is so cool! Congrats to your little man. I would definitely try to convince him. It sounds like a once in a lifetime thing. Maybe you could tell him he can bring a picture of himself at the event as a show and tell kind of thing?
