Lunch time screamer? UPDATED

So for the last 3 weeks LO has been screaming his head off at his noon feed. For a week it was almost every feed all day but not at night and then now it is consistently just the one at noon. He acts hungry, I put him on the boob, he takes a few swallows and then pulls off and screams like a banshee for 20-30min. Eventually I get him to take a soother and he almost falls asleep and then I can put him back on and he finishes eating. Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on or how to make it better? I thought maybe he was struggling with the let down but I'm not that full by noon anymore and then I wondered if he's frustrated that the let down isn't fast enough but I find it odd that it is like this only at noon. He is now 12 weeks if that makes a difference. Thanks!

UPDATE: well today I skipped my OJ and he didn't scream at all. However, he also had a 3h nap and I fed him before he was fully awake and that's different than usual too. I will have to see how tomorrow goes I guess. Or I could have OJ with my lunch and see if he screams at 2 I suppose... In other news he puked a huge amount all over the bed so I am now getting to do laundry. In addition I didn't realize that the mattress pad had pulled up some so he actually managed to soak the mattress despite my best intentions....sigh...

  • Do you eat something LO doesn't like between breakfast & lunch? Have you tried gas drops?

I don't have experience with reflux or anything else like that, but have you asked the pedi? And fwiw, DD used to get very frustrated and impatient if she wasn't getting her milk fast enough, lol. From day one. Maybe try hand expressing first so letdown happens by the time LO is ready?

    Good luck!

hmmm. I do eat the exact same thing for breakfast every day...Cheerios and OJ. Maybe it's one of those, although I'd put my bets on the OJ. I will go without each for a couple of days and see if it makes a difference.  If not I'll try to speed up my letdown as suggested. Thanks!

The oj may be too acidic. And I agree about hand expressing first to get a quicker let down. But maybe don't try both at the same time or you won't know which one actually worked. GL!

Believe it or not, I've never had coffee! The exam is next Thurs. Only a week to go....but so much to learn in the meantime. Will find out the results just before I head back to work for July 1. I wish my mat leave was longer and exam free. Thanks for asking.
