Made a face when told name we chose

Let's just say my mother has no filter and can be rude and obnoxious most of the time. Of course, she asked me what name we chose for a girl, I told her, and she made a very obvious face. I told her we, Dh and I, like the name, so that's all that matters. She then I back pedaled saying she liked it. I mean, does she really think her opinion matters anyway lol. It's our child. Guess some people, no matter how old, have no tact. Vent over lol

Re: Made a face when told name we chose

  • I'm sorry! My mom doesn't really love the name we chose either but it's been a month and now she likes it! What was the name?

  • Sorry you got that response!  That's why we are keeping our name a secret until LO is born.  Don't worry, though, once they meet your LO they won't care what the name is, because they will love her no matter what!

  • I'm glad you stood up to her and told her that. It's not her child and it shouldn't matter to her anyways.
  • Madison. Yes, I know very common these days, but we both like it.
  • That name is precious!  I just love how people who have already had children and had the chance to name said children want to rain on the parade of someone who is naming their first child...or second child...etc.  You got to name your child people! Now give us a chance!

We have had so many reactions to names "Don't name your kid that (to the name Charlie)" or "Oh no...not that" (to any other name on our list).  I've just stopped telling people.  I think it will be harder for them to actually be holding the baby and say "You have a dumb name".

My FIL is the biggest offender.  I'm sorry that happened...it's such a sucky feeling.

  • Exactly why we are keeping LO's name a secret from everyone, even our families. It's not anyone else's child and while everyone is entitled to their opinion, I don't care to hear it right now. There are several names that I don't happen to like either, but it is not my kid, so why even share my opinion?
  • People can be very opinionated about names, so your Mom isn't alone.  We kept DDs name secret until the birth and never heard a complaint that way!  We'll probably do it again this time around.  We're going to do what we want anyway, so their opinion isn't a deal breaker.  Once they see that sweet baby they will (most likely) love the name just because they love her.  :)

  • My mom and I are super close and she usually doens't overstep her boundaries but with names she's got LOTS of opinions.

She did that that to me last time I was pg. Before we knew what we were having we were tossing around names and I mentioned Jack for a boy. Well, the Ke$sha song "Tik Tok" was popular and there's a line about a "bottle of Jack and I ain't coming back". My mom said that's what she thought of with the name Jack and she made a face. I was so mad. Turns out DD is a girl so it was moot, but yeah...not fun.

  • We are naming baby girl Eleanor.  I was worried people would think of it as an old lady name, but everyone has at least had good reactions to our face.

I think Madison is a fine name.  Sorry you got a crappy reaction.
