Killian absolutely HATED being on his tummy until this past weekend. He went from screaming himself blue in the face any time he was on his tummy to rolling as soon as his butt hit the floor (or the changing table, or the bath-tub, or the stroller....) Now he still makes an "Uuhhhh!" sound and pushes himself up onto his arms (and knees!). He was so far behind the other babies on here that i was starting to think he wouldn't ever crawl either but I guess he was just taking his sweet time deciding if it was something he really wanted to do. Now that he's decided it might be a pretty ok thing I can't keep him off his tummy. He started rolling in his sleep so he can sleep all curled up with his knees pulled up, tummy down, stuffed cow pulled across his face.
We had an ah ha moment last week when we put him belly down over a boppy pillow those c shaped pillows you see for early nursing. it's really hard to roll over from that position but pretty comfy. The best part is we can lay him like that on the bed, so he gets real interested in seeing rooms from a new perspective. So he stays longer I. Tummy position.
Ours was an overnight thing too...she learned to go from belly to back real quick because she hated tummy time...and then one day, I picked her up from my Mom and she told me Abbi had a new trick..we took her home, plopped her on her back, and boom, she took off rolling all over the place- this has only been a week or so ago, but this kid now rolls like an adorable little tumble weed- and she can now get up on her hands and sorta on her knees (i have a feeling as soon as she gets on her knees, she'll be crawling)....and I felt sure she'd skip crawling as much as she used to hate being on her belly.
As to the crawling thing, DD1 would do tummy time but that was never the position she'd crawl from. When she crawled, she started sitting up and would lean forward onto her hands and would scoot herself that way. Pretty much one leg stayed in its sitting position and the other would fling back into normal crawling position. So she pretty much crawled with both arms and only 1 leg. Anyway, so your LO may still find a way to crawl even if tummy time never gets better. But I agree it will get better. A trick my friend gave me for crawling was to sit kind of indian style and put baby belly down over your thigh. It puts them into crawling position with your leg supporting their stomach. Maybe something to try. Then you can put a toy out of reach and help them get to it by moving your leg a bit.

DD1 for me hardly was on her tummy, she went pretty much straight to sitting up. She did start crawling though at about 7 months, she would go from sitting position to on all fours and rocking. Then one day she was a crawling fool. I wouldn't rule out crawling just yet, but I think it's common to have a LO who hates being on their belly.
