We have almost finished introducing single ingredients to our 6.5 month old but now I want to try adding some solids. Which are the best ones to introduce first? I'm really nervous about him choking or not knowing what to do.

At 6.5 months your LO probably does not have the pincer grasp yet. I give mine soft foods (bananas, avocadoes) sliced in a thicker french fry shape so he can palm-grab it. I've also done steamed veggies (especially ones with stalks, like broccoli). Make sure they're soft so he gets used to it. It will be a mess at first since my LO at first had NO idea what to do with it and just mushed it around. Eventually he got the hang of it and love eating non-purees now.
And yeah, mine gagged a lot at first, and still do. He has not choked on the very soft foods given to him though.
We started at 6 months and we've first introduced banana but LO also loves avocado. I first find it hard to tell which solids were recommended for her and which to avoid, but I found this website https://goodmomming.com/ and it kind of solved my problem. You could use it.
