Convertible car sears

I've just started researching convertible car seats. Which do you have? Pros? Cons? And what size vehicle do you have?

Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  • You want a car seat that will keep your child rear facing for as long as possible. The AAP's no car seat guidelines are RF until at least 2 years, that is the minimum. Your supposed to RF until your child grows out of the RF limits of the seat, be that at 2 years or 4. For that reason it's suggested you get a seat that will keep them RF longer, it is ten times safer than FF before 4 years of age. For that reason the best seats are the Clek Foonf, Diono Radian (r120 will RF longer than the RXT, but either is fine), Chicco Nextfit, and Graco Size4me. The Chicco and Graco do not have thehighest weight limits, but have a high shell. My personal favorites are the Clek Foonf and the Diono Radian. To me theyare the best constructed and well thought out seats. I have one of each in my car, my DH has 2 Radians in his car since his car is too compact for the Foonf.

  • I bought 2 Chicco Nextfit convertible car seats and love them! So well made and safe. I have the Chicco Cortina travel system & love it too. Chicco makes great stuff.
  • We have a Britax Pavilion and a Britax Roundabout.  I like the Pavilion in our Santa Fe because it has more safety features.  The Roundabout is in our second car, a Subaru Forester, which is a real PITA to find a fitting car seat for, BTW.

I have the Chicco NextFit as well & think it is a wonderful seat for safety and more.  I drive a Honda Pilot but the seat fits in my husband's Camry as well.

  • We have a Britax Roundabout 55 and I love it. I have a minivan and with the LATCH system it is super easy to install and remove. The seat is very well padded and W seems to be pretty comfortable.

However, if my MIL hadn't bought us the Britax (no way we could afford it), I would've gotten the Safety 1st Air. My cousin recommended it as the best of the inexpensive ones. I think it's about $65-70, but she said it's very nice and comfortable.

  • We have been looking at the Eddie Bauer XRS 65 and the Graco MyRide 65. I think we are going to end up trying the Eddie Bauer. They both have good ratings and are in a price range we can afford. We have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe.
