Does your daycare use bibs in the toddler room for when your LO eats or does arts & crafts projects?
My DC included a "warning" in the transition packet when she was going to move into the toddler room that toddlers get messy so don't send them in their best clothes. However, I'm noticing that they hardly use bibs and I'm getting really tired of ruined clothes. My LO is 18 months and still needs to wear a bib IMO. Yesterday she came home with a top covered in spaghetti sauce from their "pasta cooking project" and I can't get the sauce out. They did not put a bib on her for this project or when she ate the pasta.
Thanks for letting me vent. I guess I'm trying to get an idea of what's "normal" before I start complaining to my DC. I've already sent a smock for her to use for art projects because the ones they have are too big for her.
Re: Bibs in DC Toddler Room?
No bibs after the infant yrs in my DC.
ETA: I would send a an adult or lg kids shirt as a smock and ask the teachers to place over your LO's clothes during art projects.
Same.
Our daycare keeps my DS crazy clean. Every day I'm astonished by how clean he is, because on the weekends he ends up getting an outfit change before naptime.
For meals, they have large towel bibs that they use for normal meals. They literally buy dish towels and then a volunteer grandma sews holes into them for bibs.
For really messy meals (soup days), they put t-shirts over their regular clothes to keep them clean. Same for art projects. Each room has a supply of t-shirts that they wash and re-use.
Your situation sounds strange and I think its reasonable to expect more. I don't buy fancy clothes for my kid, but clothes are still expensive and I'd be upset if they kept getting ruined because daycare didn't even bother with bibs.

Thanks for the responses so far! I'm surprised to hear that it's not unusual for toddlers not to wear bibs. My LO is not a neat eater yet so food often ends up on her during meals.
I should clarify that my DC does have smocks for art projects, but they are too big for my LO. The other day she wore the long-sleeve bib/smock that I provided and *still* got paint all over her shirt and sleeves. (I've tried washing that one too and some of the paint didn't come out.)

No, we've never had bibs since he exited the infant room (two different centers too.) I did send one a few times though based on the menu. We basically rotate through 5 "daycare shirts" to avoid this problem. I gave up. I wash them and if they are stained, he wears them to school that way. I keep a nicer shirt in the car in case I'd like to go somewhere after I pick him up.
Same here at our center.
The kids in DD's 2-3 yr old class use bibs for painting and lunch. That's about it. I don't mind tossing her clothes if they get too gross. I don't send her in the nicest clothes she owns though.
I'm so glad you posted this!
DD is about to move up to tods and I spend way too much money on her clothes. Good to be prepared for paint to get all over them. This is probably a good time for me to reaquaint myself work Old Navy and say goodbye to Gymboree!
This is a great idea! Thanks.

I've tried Oxiclean and it usually works, but it didn't work with the spaghetti sauce. I'll probably try again. Thanks!
