Cloth Diapering

Diaper rash from teething?

I know there is some debate about whether teething really causes any rash, but did anyone else's LO get a rash when they were teething? I can't figure out what else it would be. He doesn't have any diarrhea, it definitely isn't yeast, I don't think it is a detergent sensitivity because its just in his little butt crack, and we haven't introduced any new foods lately. I'm annoyed, because daycare wants to put him in sposies so they can use cream (it's easier for them than liners, and they provide sposies as part of tuition so I don't have to buy them). His poor little butt just looks so red & raw, and our CJ's doesn't seem to be helping.

Boo diaper rash.

Re: Diaper rash from teething?

  • None of mine ever got diaper rash from teething but I always thought it was the extra salivia that caused diarrhea that caused the rash. I could be wrong though. I've found that CJs is great for preventing rash but not so good at treating it. As far as bad diaper rash, my Dr. told me to get some Resinol for it and it worked great, way better than desitin. It's not CD safe so you'll have to use a liner or sposies but it cleared up a nasty rash in a couple of days and seemed to be pain free, while all the other creams (both cd safe and not cd safe) seemed to hurt lo. It's behind the counter so you have to ask the pharmacist for it, but you don't need a prescription.

This was always my understanding about the cause of the rash too.

DD gets a HORRIBLE rash when she is cutting teeth. Like red, raw, bleeding in some spots. It's just wicked. We're dealing with it right now. When it gets really bad I put her in a sposie and put a thick layer of zinc oxide cream on it. I also do baking soda in the bath as well.

  • I'm not sure but DD started getting a rash yesterday and has been teething like crazy so I'm hoping they're related!
  • I've always used a liner and you can get a roll inexpensively and used Gramma El's for rash. I have not had any problems with our diapers after.

  • DD always got a really bad diaper rash when getting the big teeth (molars and canines).
  • DS didn't get a rash for his first 2 teeth. Can you try California Baby or coconut oil? Both have worked for us and are CD safe.

Yeah the only times she's gotten a rash when teething was because of the poop.

I also second the baking soda bath. I do one at night and let her air dry fully after and the rash is gone (or way better) by morning.
