Diaper bag alternative

So my husband put a limit on my for the cost of my diaper bag.  I really don't like a lot of what's out there, but of course I seem to love the really expensive bags.  What are others doing?  Anyone attempt to buy a nicer tote and use that?  I am the type of girl who uses a very small, almost clutch purse.  I don't need much and I don't carry much with me.

Re: Diaper bag alternative

  • I registered for the more expensive one I liked and hope I get it, but I think to be well organized, it's worth it.  It's a major accessory that is part of your day to day.  I would approach the idea in a little while again.  What was the spending cap he gave you?  Maybe someone can help you find something in your price range.

  • I got the bumble collections Jessica messenger and backpack bag in evening bloom. I registered for it at target but its sold elsewhere mine is 79,
  • I registered for the Innsbruck O3 diaper bag on amazon.

I figure it can be used as a regular back pack after its done being a diaper bag, has the detachable cooler bag, and has stroller straps.

  • I got the Kate Spade Denise when they had their super sale (they have a few a year if you keep your eye out) I think I got it for $150ish. I love it. I can't wait to pack it.

A friend uses the Kate Spade Bon Shopper and says it works great! its almost always on sale and has cute patterns/colors

There are two baby bags on sale on their website right now too: I like that they have stroller straps

I was eyeballing this bad boy here:

    https://www.amazon.com/timi-leslie-Rachel-Diaper-Caramel/dp/B008R5260M

but ultimately just ended up getting a tote I like better.  I've already got a much nicer small wet/dry bag and change mat than those that come with the bag above.  The only thing I don't have is a bottle insulator (I'll get one at a later time).

    Here's the tote I got:

It's much cuter, imo, is basically the same size, and is really really well made.

First thank you for the suggestions.

I was looking to go no higher than 200 for a diaper bag.  He thinks that's ridiculous, but he's a man.   Some of the ones I really like are over 300.  I hate wasting money, but I don't see how settling for something that costs 50 that I don't like is doing us any favors.

  • I am going to use this MK bag.  https://www.michaelkors.com/p/MICHAEL-Michael-Kors-MICHAEL-Michael-Kors-Medium-Jet-Set-Multifunction-Saffiano-Travel-Tote-TOTES/prod21150002_cat8519_cat8501_/?index=4&isEditorial=false&cmCat=cat000000cat8501cat8519

I got it for 25% off at Macy's and it was a little over $200.  I also plan on getting a diaper clutch to put in there.

  • I got the JJ Cole Satchel with the 30% code they have now.  Came to $56 after shipping
    Lilypie Third Birthday tickers
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • I am actually in the camp that thinks diaper bags over 50 bucks are a waste of money lol. I plan in carrying my regular purse everywhere and just stick the diaper bag in the underneath the stroller storage and only pull it out when I need something from there. My hospital gives free diaper bags which has some compartments and changing pad and that's what I plan on using.
  • I have a cute skip hop one, that even my husband said doesn't look too girly, more like a college kid shoulder bag.

Also got a 31 professional looking tote for the more dressy occasions.
  • I had a skip hop one for a long time, which was OK, and looked a bit like a purse, but it did give me back pain:

Now I use a regular backpack (I actually just "borrowed" one of DHs laptop bags), and I love it, it is so much easier to deal with a toddler when your bag is not in the way, I wish I had done it sooner, I have a small bag that I just transfer my purse and keys into if I am going out without DS.

I got my skip hop bag on Kajiji for $50, I could not imagine spending more than that on a diaper bag, they get so messy I can think of much nicer things to spend my money on.

What is the limit? nbsp;I got a nice 400 Coach bag at the outlet for only 100. nbsp;Could you maybe try an outlet store?

I have a white coach patent leather bag. It's nice since my kids have spilled juice/ milk on the outside and I was able to do a quick wipe down.
  • I don't like ANY of the diaper bags I have seen!!... I have been searching Hi and Low...

This is what I came up with:

I was going to go the Michael Kors route, but not alot of his bags have outside pockets, which I like for my keys, and water.

Don't forget about Ebay and Poshmark for designer bags too!!! I don't mind using a well kept used designer bag if it's going to save me hundreds.

I came across a nice looking Steve Madden Diaper bag on Poshmark, but it was sold, and I have not been able to find it any wear online.

Then I was at Marshals the other day, and was looking at the Michael Kors Bags When I saw a Big Buddha Tote, as I kept looking I kept picking these Buddha bags up, I have never herd of before.  They are big, most have some kinda of outside pocket, and inside pockets and dividers, and they are STYLISH!! I inserted an amazon link, but you can also find them on ebay.   I plan on buying a couple different colors and styles and getting one of those purse organizing inserts, and throwing my personal stuff in a clutch.

For the registry I had my boyfriend pick one out that he will use. That way if I get a bright pink tote, he will still have something to grab for when I'm not around, that isn't to girly.

  • And that Timi and Leslie just joined my registry in place of my other one.  Thanks Nukke.  I <3 that bag.  A friend of mine has a larger Timi and Leslie and LOVES it.

  • I personally didn't feel the need to spend a lot on a diaper bag.  We are with M pretty 50/50 so we share one and bought accordingly.  It was a columbia for $30-40.  The only thing I don't like about it is the flap closure.  On the other hand I would be pissed about being given a "limit" on what I could spend.  I think how much you spend on a diaper bag is very personal and varies depending on life style and where you live.  Just make sure that what you get fits those things.
