Parenting after a Loss

when did you first leave LO with a babysitter?

My husbands birthday is at the end of the month. E will be 3 1/2 months old. I asked my MIL to watch her that evening so DH and I can go out. I figure I can feed her right before we leave, go out to eat then be back in a couple of hours. I plan to pump a bottle to leave just in case but I don't know if she will even drink out of a bottle. I think I may be the one crying about leaving her though! When did you first leave LO?

  • We reinstated our weekly date nights starting at 7 weeks. We're on a rotation between my parents, ILs and my brother and his fiance. It's nice for DH and I to go out and enjoy each other, but it's so nice to get back to DD too!

We still haven't left her with anyone. She's been with DH or me every second of her almost 8mo. It seems a little crazy thinking about it that way, but we just haven't been ready. The ILs are coming in a couple of weeks, and they're supposed to watch her for an afternoon while I'm at a conference and DH is at work. I don't actually need the last afternoon of the CLE though, so I may ditch it if I get too stressed about her.

If you don't want to leave her, you can always go out after her bedtime and just keep her in the carrier. We've done it a lot, since early on (literally, the first time was our anniversary 10 days after birth). We just do her normal bedtime routine and then put her in her car seat instead of crib, and go. We take her in the restaurant in her car seat and she sleeps the whole time, without even a cover over the carrier. She just has to be asleep before we go in or she gets too distracted.

    GL either way!

I left DD with my mom for an hour to run errands just last week and it went very well. She didn't seem to notice I was gone, and my mom had a blast. She called my dad and her sister just to brag that she got to babysit. Now I'm itching for a date night and hope to do it sometime in the next two weeks. DD is eight weeks if you're on mobile. It all depends on your comfort level and who is going to watch her. You'll know when it feels right, enjoy!

  • We left DD with MIL for the first time when she was a few weeks old.  DD is almost 5 months and still refuses a bottle so we have left her with MIL a few times but never for more than 2-3 hours.  If she took a bottle I would have been fine leaving her for longer a couple months ago.

  • I left her when she was a couple months old at our tailgater with my sister a few times. We would tailgate before the game, go into the game, come back at half time and then go back to the game. So I was away from her for a few hours total. I left her a bottle and would pump or feed her at half time.

  • We have only left DS with family, either my Mom, my IL's or my sisters. We have some sitters lined up for later this year (16 & 17 year olds who are friends of the family)...but DH doesn't want to leave him with them for several more months.

  • We left DS with my mom and sister around 3 weeks because we had to go to a friend's birthday dinner. We were only gone about 2 hours but man did we fly home!
