Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If your LO sleeps on you for naps please come in..

Please help!

DD is 13 weeks old and only naps if she's laying on me. At nights she is swaddled and sleeps in her crib fine but during the day she screams and cries if I try to swaddle her or put her down anywhere. I love her sleeping on me and wish I could do it all the time but it's getting to a point where I accomplish absolutely nothing because she's either sleeping on me or she is awake and I am entertaining her.

Anyone else's LO only naps while laying on them? how did you get them to nap elsewhere? Also how old is/was your LO?

Things I have tried for naps so far: wearing her, car rides, walking in her stroller, putting her in her swing, RnP, crib with mobile on/off.

  • My LO did this when she was only a few weeks old. I would lay on the couch watching late night television and she would be sound asleep on my chest. I don't know what I did to make her stop, I think she just outgrew it or because I just started laying her down in the crib.

You can do a mix of CIO and No-tears by letting her cry for a bit and then picking her up if she seems really upset. Rock her and put her down again. It might take awhile, but it is worth a try.

  • My only suggestion is wearing her in a carrier. DS is six months and will still only sleep on me, I love the snuggles but sometimes it's like I have a million things to do.

  • Try the "No Cry Nap Solution." It helped to loosen (though not break) my LO's nursing association, and there's a whole chapter on in-arms sleeping.

  • This is totally me. Except! Everyone else can put her down but me. The second I lay her down she wakes up! Then she ends up pretty much not napping and is a crabby little thin all afternoon until my husband gets home. She falls asleep in his arms and boom lays her down. Then I get the crazy look

this was us for a few months then she just kind of out grew it. I didn't  do anything different except keep trying to put her in the crib and it really helped when I went back to work and she was with nana all day and she would nap in the pnp there. GL!

I second this. There's a whole chapter for in arms sleepers.

DS1 did it and since it was just him at home, I let him. He didn't go to his crib until he was 13 months old and it was HARD!

Sure enough, this baby is proving difficult as well but I'm trying to be consistent. He goes down in the crib for at least half his naps. He usually doesn't last more than 30 minutes before he wakes up wide awake, but he's happy and not fussy!

  • DD still only naps while she's BFing or sometimes in the Ergo.
  • You could maybe try nursing her to sleep in the side lying position? I started doing this when E was about a month old and I lay with her on the couch or my bed and as soon as she's asleep I quietly slip away and she has no idea.

  • This was us for 8 weeks....I was you!!! I was getting nothing done, I wasn't drinking nearly enough out of fear I would have to pee once she was asleep bc she could pass out on me for 2 hours at a time.  At 8 weeks we finally said enough is enough and we put her in her RnP (where she sleeps at night) for every nap.  It was torture, we had to do the stealth put down and tip toe out of the room after we rocked her to sleep, only for her to wake up 5 mins later.  For about 3 weeks or so, I would still let her have 1 nap on me during the day bc I felt bad.  Now 2 months later, I wiont lie, she's still a shitty cat napper (30 mins) but honestly she doesn't seem to mind, she's happy and at least I get to have my coffee in the morning because I know I wont have a sleeping baby on me and I can pee!

That's totally me too. I try to not drink much because I know she'll be on me and I can't go to the bathroom..I know I am breastfeeding and should be drinking plenty..
