Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Middle of the Night Crying Fits (Still Sleeping)

Is anyone else experiencing this? My LO is almost 7 months, and she'll randomly start crying in her sleep. Most of the time, she falls back to sleep on her own within 5 minutes. But lately I've had to go in and give her her pacifier more often and then she instantly calms herself and goes back to sleep. She doesn't even have her eyes open but is clearly uncomfortable. This morning (530 am) she was so upset that when I went in, she popped up and wanted me to pick her up. I gave her her pacifier while I was holding her and she nuzzled her face into my chest and fell back to sleep in my arms. I have never had to physically comfort her in the middle of the night, and have only had to enter her room 2-3 times before this for the pacifier. The only thing I can think is its teething, because it's a "I'm in pain" cry. But it's strange to me that the most painful cries (when I break down and go in) are always around 530 am. Thoughts?

  • There is a sleep regression sometimes between 6-10 months.. but it could be teeth - teeth bug them more at night.  It also could be seperation anxiety.. I don't know - we have been in sleep hell for a few months now..

Ditto pp about sleep regression & teething.  DD will even be sitting up in her crib, eyes closed and crying.  As soon as I lay her down and plug in the pacifier, she's back out.

  • We've been seeing this lately with DD, but she's got 2 teeth coming in at the same time on top.  We think it's related.

  • DD used to STTN from 6 weeks to about 7 months...then she started doing exactly what you described.  She flips, she crawls, she stands, and cries...all while sleeping.  As soon as I pick her up she's totally asleep, arms limp and everything.  I don't know what to do.  I don't know how long it will last...I just hope it ends soon because i'm soooooo TIRED!

  • My DD is doing this, too.  She is definitely teething, though, so I think that is most of it.

  • Thanks everyone! I blame it on her dad... he talks in his sleep sometimes too haha I think she has her 2nd bottom tooth coming through right now, so I'm sure it's a combination of things. But as long as she gets the sleep she needs I'll survive. That's why they make coffee! :)
