XP: Stroller with true "upright" position

XP from Nursery & Baby Gear

I can't believe I'm even posting this because I regularly respond to posts about the City Mini GT with how much I love it - and I do.  It's an awesome stroller . . . but, we've recently noticed that even in its most upright position with the straps in the correct placement, DS (14 months) still ends up sort of reclined/slouched over.  Basically, the only way for him to sit up straight and hold on to the belly bar or snack tray would be if we loosened the straps and he held himself up straight (i.e., his back would not be against the seat) - and that doesn't sound all that comfy.  Or, maybe he wouldn't mind that but I don't think it seems safe to have the straps that loose.

So . . . does anyone have/know of a stroller that allows kids to sit truly upright?

TIA!

Umbrella strollers tend to sit the most upright, but if you think about it, even adults don't sit truly upright in chairs, etc.  There is a little recline.  The jogging strollers definitely have more of a recline though.  I always fuss with this on our BOB because I feel like it's so reclined.

That said, I don't think you need to have the straps on super tight.  There should definitely be some room for him to to sit up and grab stuff off the tray if he wants.

We do keep a little give in the straps so he can grab stuff. I look at him sometimes, though, in the stroller and think, "does sitting like that make your back hurt?"  You know when you've been slouching in your chair or on the sofa for a while, when you get up, you kind of need to stretch out your back? I feel like his back must feel like that after a long ride in the stroller.  I also wonder if he wants to be able to see more "stuff" while riding in the stroller.  He seems too reclined to really take it all in.  Eh - I'm probably over-thinking the whole thing because he never really fusses in the stroller so I'm sure he's fine. I also just posted something yesterday about my house being over-run with DS's stuff and here I am considering a second stroller.  Yep, I need to re-think this idea!

  • Our Phil & Ted's Smart Buggy's upright position is definitely the most upright I've seen -- very similar to an umbrella stroller's positioning. We love it, but because it's a compact stroller there is no tray or doubles kit option. Not a big deal for us, but it may be for you.

If he is not complaining, I wouldn't worry. If he was uncomfortable, he'd tell you. Even our maclaren that is pretty "upright" still isn't a 90 degree angle, who wants to sit like that?

ditto all of this. I think you're over-thinking it
