Ob or Midwife?

What is your preference and why? Since its my 4th, and I had only OB's with all three of my children, now I want to try a Midwife in the hospital setting....

Re: Ob or Midwife?

  • The midwife clinic that I made my first appt in July has 3 MWs and they want me to meet all of them (at different times of course) in case I go into labor and one of them is not gonna be able to make it.....I am still not sure about that because I want to see just one for the length of whole pregnancy.

  • My primary provider will be my OB/GYN (who I've been seeing for years already), but there are also nurse practitioners in the practice and my first appointment is with one of them.

  • OB, but there are only 2 in my practice and I love them both!
  • I had fantastic OBs and a great experience with #1, I'm sticking with it.

  • I just found out I have been accepted my the midwives and can have my beautiful home birth now, I love midwives!
  • OB, since I am high-risk.  Otherwise, I'd be going with a MW.

  • I go to an ob/mw practice but I've always seen the midwives. Both DS and DD were delivered by midwives and I'll be seeing them again for this pregnancy.

Ideally I'd love to have a home birth with a MW, but I have high blood pressure so I'm already high risk.  I found an OB I liked, but we'll see when the time comes...
  • OB. I will be having a RCS.

  • I'll be seeing an OB. My hospital gives you the option of either a midwife or an OB, and I will be having a RCS so might as well see the OB since they'll be doing the surgery. My last OB left the practice so I will be seeing a new one.

  • I'll be seeing a MW at an OB/MW practice and will deliver at a hospital with a MW.

  • I've seen a nurse midwife for my yearly exams for 10 years now. I really like her, but her practice stop letting the midwives deliver about 8 or so years ago. Otherwise, I would want her to. I like the practice, but I will see a different doctor at each visit to rotate through them all, since whoever is on call when I go into labor will deliver the baby.

  • I'm sticking with an OB - I would love to stick with my previous OB because I loved him so much, but he was constantly late for appointments. I don't recall him ever being on time. I waited a minimum of 15-20 minutes for each of my appointments and then 45 minutes for both of my ultrasounds. DD will be coming with me to many of my appointments and I just don't want to be dragging her along to have to sit in a waiting room for 20 minutes for a 5 minute appointment. KWIM? So, as much as I hate to do it I am considering switching to another highly recommended OB.

  • I am seeing an OB.  I've been seeing her since I was 17 and love her.  I could see someone much closer but she is affiliated with a great hospital so I drive 40 minutes to see her.

I went to an OB/MW practice with DS and saw the midwifes. I had such a great experience with them and the delivery. Unfortunately we just moved so now I'm looking for a new practice here, preferably with midwives.
  • I loved my OB and am going to stick with her!

  • I saw midwives with my first pregnancy and loved it. I would be doing the same if we were still in the States.

This time around, however, we're in Germany and the system here is a bit different. OBs see patients throughout the pregnancy, while midwives staff the hospitals and oversee labor. OBs only step in for ceseareans and then it's just the OB on call, not "your" OB. Should be interesting!
