Kawaii's P & N for NB

I am looking for CD's for the NB phase, I already have a good stash of BG 4.0's for when LO gets a little bigger, would Kawaii's be a good choice for NB? Something about prefolds and fitteds and having to fold just doesn't turn my crank, I am looking for simplicity as everything will be new for me (FTM & CD'er) I love the price of the Kawaii's, especially after looking at the price of some of the other fitteds (ie: Simplex) ....any suggestions?

Sorry girls, I know I have lots of questions, I appreciate everyone's help though, you can't imagine how much your answers have helped and have put my nervous mind at ease. Hope I can give great advice like you one day :)

Every baby is different so obviously there's no guarantee that you will love the fit of P&Ns on your LO.  That being said, I think they are a good choice if you really don't want to do prefolds or fitteds.  I like that they are economical and that they will fit for quite a while rather than just the first few weeks.

FWIW I was totally against having to fold prefolds and mess with fitteds plus a cover before LO too.  Now they are my top two favorite kinds of diapers.  Yes there's a bit of a learning curve on prefolds, but honestly nothing holds NB poo in like a jellyroll folded prefold.  And they clean up like nobody's business.  Plus they work as inserts in bigger diapers or burp rags or just rags to clean up a mess once baby outgrows them.

yup! I was intimidated by prefolds too, but was intrigued by them.  Ended up being one of my top two as well! We still have NEVER  had a leak

  • I hear you on being disinclined to wrestle with prefolds and covers.  That was my plan for the NB phase and as it turns out I was intimidated as hell with my shiny newborn wriggling around the changing table.  In particular, the NB prefolds I had (Grovia bamboo) were only two layers on the outer thirds so the Snappi would poke my kiddo when I used it to close the diaper.  It's entirely possible that was user error.

    Anyway.

It took Sully about two weeks to fit into the Kawaii Pure & Naturals, but only because she has skinny, skinny, skinny thighs.  There's no way we could have predicted this.  The Alva brand NBs we bought were useless because they work best on chunky thighs.  They still don't fit properly at six weeks, so they're in the donation pile.

The diapers we ended up LOVING in the fresh NB phase were EcoPosh fitteds and Muttaquin Baby NB dipes.  Neither brand is cheap, but you are shopping early, so you have time to buy used.  (I got all of the EcoPosh used on B/S/T [buy/sell/trade] sites.  I did buy our Muttaquin Baby diapers new and they are divine.  Worth every penny.

Holy long answer to your questions, Batman.  I think I've had one too many cups of coffee.

The word you're looking for is SEX.  I promise.  No, it's not gender.  It's sex.  You're welcome.

  • I had no desire to figure out any kind of fold, so I chose Kawaii P&Ns and Alva NBs. The Kawaii fit from birth. DD3 came home from the hospital at 7 lbs 11oz and 21.5". She has long skinny legs, and they still worked. The Alvas are made for babies with chubby legs. They fit once I twisted the tabs, but they still don't fit without. DD is now 9.5 lbs and 24" at 2 months. I've been reading here that the snap Alvas actually fit better bc they have a hip snap on the legs. Mine are all aplix.

  • I had 6 p&n with DS and loved them! They are a great diaper. I ordered 3 more for baby #2.

I wasn't really big on prefolds/fitteds either, but I ended up really liking GMD workhorse fitteds in my newborn stash. Those and the p&n were my favorite NB diaper.
