Birthday Parties

Meal Ideas

Yet another meal idea post...

DS's 5th birthday is at 1pm on a Sunday and I'm having a rough time coming up with something to serve. I don't want to go broke on this party! But I have 10 kids (including my 3) and roughly 30 adults coming to my house.

I'm thinking of doing a crockpot full of sauce and meatballs, italian bread and butter green salad, fruit salad and cake and ice cream.

I'm considering doing parmesean breaded chicken strips as an alternative...

UGH! I can plan a theme and activities w/o a problem... but the meal kills me every time!

Re: Meal Ideas

  • what about a baked ziti? goes along way, cheaper than chicken and most kids& adults like it.

  • What about having DH grill burgers & hot dogs? That's always nice for summer.
  • I would also add in a pasta of some kind - a crockpot/chafing dish filled with penne or rigatoni or something similar so guests could use the meatballs/sauce with that in addition to the other options.  It's kind of multitasking what you already have planned.

  • LOL at myself! Yes, I am making penne to go with it. Sorry, I didn't realize I hadn't typed that :)

  • Okay then - what about picking up some rolls so people can make meatball hoagies/subs/sandwiches (whatever they call them in your neck of the woods), again, trying to do some double duty-ing.

  • We just had DS1 3rd Birthday party last week and had: BBQ pork in a crockpot, pasta salad, baked beans, bowl of fruit, and of course cake. I liked that the BBQ and beans were both in a crockpot so those were super easy to prepare. I was able to chop veggies and make the pasta for the pasta salad the night before. The less work the better so I could enjoy my boy's day!
