Judgment call...

I have a question about our travel this weekend. We are staying at a hotel in a very small town. They don't have any suites. My parents are in the room next door, but there is no door between the two rooms. If we put E down in the PNP in our room and have the video monitor, is it okay to go to my parents room next door? Is that like being in different rooms in a house and totally okay? She's such a sensitive sleeper, especially away from home, that I know she won't sleep well if we are awake and in the room with to her. But I also don't want I abandon my kid. WWYD? Have you ever been in this situation? Please don't flame, if it's a no no just say no way.

I don't see a problem with that. I wouldn't even think twice about doing it with the video monitor.

I think it's fine. You're not going out to eat, you're going to the room next door and you'll have a monitor. When I'm home sometimes the baby and toddler are napping and I'm outside with the two older kids (and I don't have a monitor). I just keep running inside every once in a while to check on them.

I wouldn't think twice about it either. I go outside all of the time and do yardwork and stuff while my kids are sleeping in our house, upstairs. I just check the video monitor every now and then listen for cries through open windows. To me, being next door is the same as being in another room at your house!

We always do adjoining rooms with the door in between so we can hang out in one room after DD goes to sleep. I don't think it's much different to be a few extra steps away in the next room without the adjoining door. It's not like you'll be on a different floor or anything!

Normally I'd say no big deal, but the *only* potential issue... and it'd likely never happen, but man if it did... would be if you couldn't get your swipe card key thing to work to get back in to her. Do those things work on power? So if the power went out, you couldn't get in to her? These are the things my crazy over-anxious mind thinks of and would keep me from leaving her completely alone. If it's a normal key, I'd be fine with the video monitor.

Interesting point to consider. I'll check with the hotel staff on if there is a plan for power outages, etc and how the doors work.

When I worked at a hotel our locks used key cards and ran on batteries.  We didn't have a generator at this hotel, so power outages never effected the ability to get in and out of a room.
