baby classes???

for the STMs did you do any of these the first time? did they help? I was looking at baby 101 type class and a breast feeding class. I think my insurance covers them. I was never around babies until my Godson was born 7 years ago and have changed maybe 2 diapers.

Re: baby classes???

  • I took a birthing class the first time around and that was it. It was ok, I think the nurses and doc's gave me more information and useful tips to use during delivery. I think a bf class and a baby class are a great idea though. I would also recommend an infant/child CPR class, if its not already offered through one of the classes.

  • I took a one-day baby care class/labor overview/hospital tour class with DH for LO#1.  It was helpful if for the only reason that it put DH and I on the same page and it gave him some exposure to basic baby care.  I'd recommend it, but it isn't a MUST in my book.

I took a separate breastfeeding class too and it was okay too.  Never a bad idea.

  • I'm at FTM. The hospital here has classes, and I've signed up for a birth, breastfeeding and newborn class. I figure, it can't hurt.

  • I"m a FTM and I went a little nuts with signing up for classes and wound up registering for like 6 classes.  I don't know anything about babies and don't have any family close by to help... so I got a little freaked and signed up for all of them!  Hopefully they aren't boring!  I think the CPR, Breastfeeding & prepared Childbirth will be very helpful.

  • With DD1 I signed up for classes.  I took a 6 week delivery class, a breastfeeding class, and CPR/first aid class.

I liked them and feel they were worth it.

  • I'm a FTM, and am not doing a birth class because it's $150 and not covered by insurance.

I might do a breastfeeding class though.

  • We are planning to do a birth class, parenting class and BF class. Each is either a 6 week series or full weekend, so it's a bit of a time commitment, but we are first time parents and they are covered by insurance so I figured why not.
