Re: Brag Day Wednesday!

  • DD1 is telling jokes and getting a huge kick out of it. Our sitter has been reading joke books with her, and so her super-memory is coming in handy. She seems to finally be getting that a punch line has to go with a particular set-up to be funny. For awhile, she was randomly making things up with bits from other jokes and they made zero sense or her punchline for every knock-knock joke was "Please would you let me in, please?" (Talk about literal interpretations of knock-knock jokes!)

She was an absolute hoot at our garage sale this past weekend. She wanted to talk to everyone. She started out the day asking, "Did you come to help with the garage sale?" and eventually figured out that people were coming to look/buy, so she'd ask, "What can we sell for you?"

The funniest thing was that she for some reason latched onto a twilight turtle I was selling, and made it her mission to sell it. She started asking people if they liked turtles, and if they wanted to buy it, and telling them that she played with it when she was a baby. Our last customer on Friday was a family with a toddler girl, and DD1 finally convinced them to buy it. I gave her the $3 from that sale, I think she earned it!

We have her first summer camp next week and I'm crossing my fingers that it goes well. I made a Sophie-book on Shutterfly to go with her to camps, which has general info on her, behaviors, and tips, but it won't arrive until partway through the week so I think I'm just going to have to print out the text from it.

  • LA gained 2lbs since Feb!  She was not on the chart, then was at 3rd percentile in Feb.  Now she is in the 6th!  My little chunk ;)
  • I guided Grant's hands to his straw sippy and he lifted it up to his mouth and took a drink! It was amazing!! He just started to reach and touch things in January and he wouldn't let you manipulate his hands at all just a couple months ago. This is huge!

DS has been hiking/fishing with DH the last 2 weekends.  His stamina is growing along with their bond.  Not that their bond was lacking but having an activity they both love is just awesome.  DH also added him to the contract at the place he goes to Krav Maga.  For the kids they do Premier Martial Arts.  DS did well for his first class.

The other day DS was watching TV when the neighbor texted me saying they were outside (she has a son about 18 months younger than DS and a 10 month old). I gave DS the choice of finishing his show or going out to play with G.  He was out the door before I could even get off the couch.  He's been a bit obsessed with TV lately, to the point where we've had to almost eliminate it. So I was very happy with his choice.

Mostly he's just been handing the transition to Summer beautifully. The only structured activity we've had is a daily 25 minute swim lesson in the morning.  We've had an impromptu play date with either his BFF from preschool  or the neighbors almost every day but nothing pre-planned.  He's still asking what we're going to do today, everyday but takes "I don't know" in stride and even throws out ideas.

  • This morning, DS woke up and wanted to know if we could immediately leave for swim camp.  He then passed level 2 (which he has been stuck at for two years) and now blows bubbles and goes underwater!  In the last six months, he has gone from screaming when his face gets wet to just flinching, to this.  SO PROUD.

This is after yesterday, when I dragged him there kicking and screaming and told him he absolutely MUST learn to swim this summer b/c he's getting too heavy for floaties. (This was a lie  :/.  He's getting ostracized by the kids at our pool b/c they can all swim.  Our goal this summer is to meet a kid he'll be going to kindergarten with.  Can't do that if they won't play with "the baby" in the floaties.  Also, I TOTALLY don't remember all of the five year olds in the pool being able to swim when I was a kid.  What's up with that?)

Ha! I love the turtle sale!

DS loves turtles and we would have bought it too!

DS has been saying "don't spill the milk, mommy." I am not sure this would be a brag but I wanted to share.

He says it now because this past Saturday, in the morning I was doing laundry upstairs and switching out with the washer and dryer.

DS was calling me from downstairs. I told him I'm upstairs. He calls again and I tell him again. Then I hear this gushing liquid, so I went down stairs. There was a full gallon of milk spilling down 4 of our carpeted stairs! DS wanted milk and tried to carry the gallon himself! Poor kid!

  • We started potty training last Thursday and will it is going so well. She just takes herself to the potty whenever she has to go.

She's also putting together longer sentences. Today she said "Mama, pick up baby girl" unprovoked when she wanted me to hold my friend's daughter. This also bodes well for adding a new baby!
