Feeding solid schedule

So my LO has started solids, she eats them with no problem. The problem that I have is we have no consistent schedule, sometimes ill feed her around dinner time sometimes in the morning, but if she is just extremely tired we skip them before bed and as just has a bottle. What type of schedule or time do you find is best to feed LO. She is only eating once a day and eats about a half jar or so, I'm going to start trying to make her solids. Just bought a sweet potato and some avocado to try out.

Re: Feeding solid schedule

  • I have started feeding DS his bottle right when he wakes up then we play for a bit and after the first eye-rub (sure sign he's getting ready to sleep) we do a little "snack" of either yogurt & banana or yogurt & avocado. So far it seems to work fine, he loves it & it doesn't interfere with him getting most of his nutrition from his bottles.

  • DD eats with us at dinner time most nights, but we aren't consistent either.  If we're in a bit of a hurry, or if she seems especially crabby (and I think she might just sit in her chair and cry), we don't bother.  If she's in a good mood I'll let her sit and eat for as long as she wants.  I don't think consistency is especially important at this point when it comes to solids... milk is still going to be the main focus for awhile.
  • I first breastfeed and after one hour or so I offer solids, she's not taking a lot but still, breastmilk is the primary source when it comes for feeding. You should just make sure she gets enough breastmilk and find the right solids to offer. If you want to try some different solids I recommend you to use this website https://goodmomming.com/ as it gives you a complete list with all the foods that are recommended and the ones to avoid.

  • We didn't offer solids consistently with DD1 until she was about 8 months, so I wouldn't really worry about it right now. We started feeding her dinner first and then around 9 months we added in lunch and at around 10 months we added breakfast. We also did BLW, so I can't give you an amount of food she ate at each meal. I would say at 8 months, it was maybe 2 or 3 pieces of sweet potato fries or veggies. We are taking a similar approach with DD2.

  • weekdays we do it at dinner, weekdays we usually do it at lunch. we both want to be there for the solid feedings, but we also found that the sugar from fruits isn't the best at dinner b/c he get a rush from it and stays awake longer and fights sleep
