PIP, should i do this?

should i base an entire nursery after one picture?  i am usually really good at decorating ideas but i am so freaking clueless this time around. =(     i am using my son's furniture /crib which is all white, and will do the walls a very neutral, light color.   i like the idea of the solid navy blue bedding , and maybe do some striped curtains? I DONT KNOW. help!  i am going into my first full freak out mode of not being prepared at all, regardless of having 20 more weeks shut it!

  • I like the whale picture...I would say don't go crazy like buying whale sheets and blankets and stuff, just do blues and tans. And striped curtains sounds cute. I love whales! They are so cool.

oh no way, i would keep it very understated, hence the solid color bedding idea

  • I love the room, but it seems a little cold and colorless for a baby.  It seems like someone is trying more hard to be fashionable than trying to pick something their baby will like and find stimulating.  I adore navy, white and grey, and as much as I try to buy color, my closet stays full of the neutral colors, so I understand.

I think going with that picture and maybe adding some pale yellow, maybe in curtains or pillows for the chair, and then a basketfull of colorful infant toys would definitely change the whole feeling of the room and still give you what you want.

  • That is so cute!! You could do light grey walls, or even a pale blue. Navy bedding would be awesome.

i agree the actual room they show is a bit sterile, i would do a bit more fun things.  but what? i dont know. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh panic! lol

Along with adding the few splashes of some color, maybe a pale green if you don't like the yellow, I just thought of another idea.... you might hate it but I think its cute.

Maybe you could find some life like stuffed fish like in the poster and then add in with those some ridiculous cartoon sea creature, like nemo and dory, or flounder.  They'd definitely stand out and add a touch of whimsy.  If you don't like the color in the curtains idea, maybe one wall painted a different color.  I always have found rooms pretty when the wall the door is on is painted something different.  Not obnoxious, like red, but something (back to) neutral.

  • It is a great room, just needs some personal touches added in. I love the striped (maybe navy and white for a nautical feel) curtain idea. Also, bringing in lots of worn wood items would really warm up the space and add some dimension as well. Possibly a jute rug to invoke the feel of nautical rope without being too literal?

  • Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams Paint

    Navy/White Striped Curtains Rugby style

I would so a navy bed skirt, a patterned crib sheet with navy and then if your doing a bumper a navy bumper.

    White Furniture

    Whale Art

White Book shelves, the pinterest kind, rain gutter type, with a variety of books to display

And pehaps a picture collage over his dresser in fun navy and white frames to bring the room together. I love https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ruby-Lucy/366840636672912?fref=ts

    Nexttttttttt?

  • Love navy. Kohls online had some super cute simple anchor crib sheets that would look great with that look.

  • I love that idea and that picture!  I think what is making the room pictured look sterile is the more taupe-toned color.  Navy with a more blue-toned gray wouldn't look so "sepia" for lack of a better term.  I love both red and bright yellow pops with navy blue.  My whole office is navy and yellow.

Here is a simple navy and gray nursery that looks more fresh than the one you posted.  The nursery itself is extremely unrealistic with all those knick knacks (especially so close to the crib), but the over all design and feel of the room is very cute.  Link

These curtains would be cute with a navy blue instead of black (I am sure you could shop around for something similar if you aren't the DIY type:  Curtains

I love love love this rug

  • Bumping back to the top of the list.
  • Do it. Sounds awesome.
  • I actually LOVE that wall art. Do it. I think those colors will look really great for a little boys room, very tranquil.
