How old for girl's 1st haircut???

I hear from friends that they *never* cut their DDs hair until much later in life. I doubt that's true or I imagine their hair wouldn't be so attractive. However, I noticed the other day while DD was in the sunlight, that she has some split-ends. I'm sure they a result of that being the hair that was in-utero (in the amniotic fluid), or maybe I'm wrong. But anyway, I don't want to cut her hair but am thinking I need to in an effort to allow it to grow-in full and healthy. Her hair is shoulder length but curls at the ends so it looks short. When did you cut DDs hair? Is it a major PITA to get them to hold still? TIAWink

  • we got DD's hair trimmed in Disney World at 10 months because we thought it would be fun for her to have her first hair cut there...we have since trimmed up the back to even it out and trimmed her bangs and she goes on Thursday for another bang trim...I brought bubbles and stickers with me to keep her busy--just put the stickers all over her shirt and pants and she will concentrate on those and they can cut her hair--it only takes less than five mintues total...

  • DD is 19 mos and has never had a haircut. I check for split ends periodically but she doesn't have any. All of her hair fell out around 4 mos, so none of her hair is "original."

Her hair does get in her eyes, so I always have to put it in a barrette or ponytail holder. It'll be a while before she gets a haircut (unless she gets split ends). I'm waiting because she has crazy cowlicks (thanks DH) and her hair literally was in a mohawk her first 14 mos or so, until I could put it in barrettes. Bangs won't work on her. It's about shoulder length. I don't want her hair to be super long, because that'll be a pain for me, but I'd like it to all be touching her shoulders before she gets it cut.

  • We got dd's hair cut for the first time today. She did great, there was a fleeting second where it might have been dicey, but she was distracted by dora the explorer, and the little car she was in. We got it cut bc it was always in her eyes, and she wouldn't wear a barrette or a bow or a pony. She just pulled them out.?

  • DD has had 2 trims and she's 15 months old.  Her hair grows really fast.
  • Both girls were 7 months old when they got their first haircut. They have a LOT of hair.

I took them to Snip-its - it's a kid's salon in my area. They both hated it! LOL!?

  • Neither of mine has had a haircut yet. ?I'm so conflicted on what to do too b/c ds NEEDS one, & I'd like to save a lock of their hair from the same age, but I'm not ready to cut dd's hair yet! ?I'm thinking maybe when they turn 2...? ?
  • DH wants to wait until DD's 2nd b-day, which is coming up. She's got a bit of a mullet, lol, but the positive is that it's long enough that she looks really cute w/ her pigtails. We'll definitely be going to a kid's salon. I've heard it's really not bad having them sit in your lap and goes very quickly.

  • My bald baby will probably NEVER need a haircut.  LOL

My BFF's friend just got her DD's cut at 4.

  • DD is 19 months & I still have not cut it.  She has these side bangs & I'm waiting until they grow out.  DH & I both hate bangs.  Plus her hair is very fine & wispy.  I may wait until her 2nd birthday to cut it.
