STMs with a 2 story house

***STMs with a 2 story house***

We have a 2 story house and this LO's bedroom is upstairs. I'm wondering if I need a bassinet. We have a pack n play with newborn napper but I was planning on putting that downstairs so that baby can nap in it when DD and I are down here. But, I'm not sure what to do when it's nighttime and we're upstairs. I want the new LO in our room for the first few weeks...then we'll transition to the crib.

We could put the pack n play in our room for the first few weeks and just keep the baby in the swing/bouncy seat while we're downstairs. Then later on move the pack n play.

Anyway, just wondering what others are doing.

We have a bassinet upstairs and a Moses basket downstairs.
  • Loading the player...
  • We don't have a 2 story house but
DD only slept in our room at night.. We used the Arm's Reach Mini CoSleeper and love it! That or some other bassinet would be fine.
    DD ~ 8/30/09 DS ~ 10/13/13
  • Also, the first few weeks turned into the first few months for us, since she wasn't a great sleeper and I was recovering from my c section..
I can't imagine going up and down stairs all night.

  • We had a bassinet in our room with DD, then moved her into her crib at 3ish months. We have moved since then and had borrowed the bassinet from a friend so now, DS will be in a packandplay in our room downstairs master for awhile, then up in his room eventually.

  • We had a cradle upstairs until we transitioned to the crib and a pack n play downstairs that doubled as a downstairs changing station. The only thing I would say is the pack n play was nice because my 18 month old couldn't get to her baby brother when he was in it. So if I needed to leave the room for a minute I wouldn't have to worry about her having access to him. In the swing or bouncer, she could get at him and I never trusted her alone with him while he was in those, even for a few seconds.
  • hmmmm...haven't thought about this. although dd1 took a lot of naps on the couch rather than the pnp (and still naps on the couch for most naps).

  • We moved to a 2 story after DD was one so I'm not exactly positive how we will work it out. All the bedrooms are upstairs. The PNP is in our bedroom for when this LO is a NB and I definitely do not have any extra room downstairs for another PNP. I just assume I will make a million trips up and down the stairs and just have some killer calves and glutes.

We lived in our 2 story house when DS was born, and this was the case. I did have room for a swing downstairs, though, so that's where he napped if necessary. I did eventually make a ton of trips up and down the stairs when he was a little bigger. It'll be lame to do again, but at least it's a way to burn some extra calories!

I'm most likely having a repeat c/s so unfortunately this isn't an option for me. I think I get 1 trip a day for the 1st few weeks which is hilarious. I know I'll be doing more than that.

Looks like I'm going ot have to get a bassinet. Maybe I can borrow one.

  • We decided on a pnp that has a separate bassinet for this exact reason. It's 207 but better than buying a lot of different pieces. The bassinet will be in the bedroom and the pnp will be downstairs. Idk when baby will go in the crib but that should be sufficient until then... I had the one with the removable bassinet for my 3yr old. I too was a csection mom and I honestly made extra trips but tried not to carry anything more than baby.

I am using pack and play with new born napper for down stairs (of course also have swing and bouncer) and crib in own room for upstairs.

  • Our bedroom is downstairs. Baby's room is up. We will use the same bassinet we used for DD. I can easily wheel the bassinet to the living room or out LO in the swing or bouncer if I need to. If we are upstairs playing, there is always the crib or floor.
  • DS started off in the cradle FIL made and the PNP in our room upstairs. After a few days we realized DS had reflux and we stopped using the cradle and DS slept in his swing downstairs and PNP upstairs.

  • We did a pack n play on 1 level and the arms reach cosleeper on the other. Worked perfectly - will be doing it again.
