So I have an appt. with the OB for my yearly and we are going to discuss BC options for me. After the scare I had (which turned out to be nothing) I can't go through that again, but I don't want us to go the permanent solution route just yet. I think after all the research I've done that Mirena would be a good fit for me. If that is what we decide on, what are my chances of getting it at my appt. on Friday? Or will I have to go back and have it placed at a later time?
Re: OB appt. and Mirena
I had to have a separate appointment for the placement of my BC. As a PP mentioned my GYN made sure it was covered (which it was 100%) and then placed the order. I think it took about a week to get it in. I am on the implant BC and so far it has been great. I had it placed in mid February and I have not had a period since early March. Woo-hoo!!
I had to beg my GYN to prescribe something that was long term. He was insistent that I go back on the pill. I kept telling him I wanted long term because I did not want any more pregnancy losses. Plus I did not want a reminder of not being able to have a baby every single day. He finally relented and prescribed the implant. Good luck.
Me too. Even though I had a baby 6 weeks earlier and had hit my out of pocket maximum for the year.
I also had to go back a month later to make sure it was in the right place.
My OB mentioned and suggested it at my 6 week appointment. Actually indicated thats its almost as effective as the permanent solution.
I then asked my family doctor and she gave me a prescription for it. If I want it, I just have to pick up the prescription and book the appointment. My doctor did ask that I wait until 3-4 months PP to make sure my uterus is recovered and make it easier for everyone. So here I am at 3.5 months PP and I haven't yet done it. Its not that I'm unsure about wanting to prevent pregnancy, I'm unsure of introducing the small amount of hormones into my body, I'm concerned about my emotional stability as it is.
My doctor made me make a separate appointment for my iud insertion also. I have friends who love the Mirena, and I hope that you have a wonderful experience. However, I can't do hormone based bc, so I opted for the paraguard and hubby is getting snipped really soon.
