Success after IF

Any suggestions for a gift for a friend who just had 2nd LO?

My best girlfriend just had her second daughter. I'm going to go see her this weekend.  Since this is her second child (and her second daughter), it would seem like she would already have clothes, toys, etc.  Any suggestions on a different gift?  I thought about making a casserole, but I'm not that great of a cook.  I also thought about maybe getting Mom a massage, but I also don't know how easy that would be for her to plan.

Re: Any suggestions for a gift for a friend who just had 2nd LO?

  • FOOD!!!!! I'm not a good cook at all but casseroles are pretty easy. Or gift cards to her fave take out place. Or even some simple groceries.

Or a cleaning service for one time. Or you could clean, lol. Or offer to take the older lo for a bit.

But seriously, the best thing I got when dd was born was a friend who dropped off a casserole on my porch and texted me to let me know it was there. Don't underestimate the power of food!!!!

  • I sent an edible arrangement to a friend who recently had her 2nd daughter :) You really can't go wrong with food, and chocolate covered fruit is pretty awesome, in my opinion!

Just had the same situation with my best friend.  I got her some A&A blankets, she commented how much she liked ours but never had them for her first daughter.  I also got her an outfit because I still think it's nice to have something new for baby #2.

But the thing she loved the most was that I bought something for DD1.  I made her up a little "big sister" bag with snacks, crayons, coloring books, a big sister album and a disposable camera.  They loved it!  It's been a hard transition for DD1 (she's 2) so it was nice that she got something instead of everyone gushing over DD2.

Oh and they also love that I brought them dinner and coffees, you can never go wrong with food!

ETA:  I didn't make the food either.  They called and ordered what they wanted, I picked up and paid.

  • There's no better gift than a Target gift card!  That, and I totally agree with the food suggestion.  We've had friends bring us dinners and that was so great since cooking is the last thing on your mind with a newborn.  It didn't matter to us if it was takeout or homemade, free food is free food.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Food is always good.  Even if you don't cook, bringing them a meal, frozen pizzas, or gift certificates to local restaurants would be great.  You could also get the baby a nice outfit because she'll probably get lots of hand-me-downs.

  • Ditto the food.  Even if you get take out ... not having to cook is not having to cook :)
