December 2012 Moms

those of you with "non-sleeping" babes

I'm not even going to bother trying to make these clicky. I can't figure it out. Anyway. Those of you (like me) who have babies that don't sleep well at night or take great naps the following two articles may help you feel better. The first article is referenced in the second article so I've posted them both here for you.

We will get through it. Wink It's exasperating and tiring and sometimes you just want to cry (and if you're like me you do) but it's really short lived and do we all just want to dwell on the sleeping issues the entire time our little ones are little?

Re: those of you with "non-sleeping" babes

  • I have a question- you posted you put her down every 2 hrs for a nap and she sleeps 25mins+. Do you think that maybe she is confused when it comes to night time? I let DD sleep during the day when other things are going on,in a room with light and noise and at night use the dark room and no noise and she STTN. Do you try to keep her up for a few hours before bed to get her really tired? I know you have had some issues, so I am just offering suggestions but I am sure you have tried lots of things.

You know we've been wondering if we should switch something up with naps and bedtime so she knows the difference. We thought maybe stopping the sleep suit for naps. The bedroom is a bit lighter during the day just because of the sun and at night there's much less interaction. If we have any noise going on she wakes up. I'm open for suggestions on how to make a difference between naps and bed!

  • We have the same general routine for both naps and night-time except that at night Killian always gets a bath (even if he had a poo-blow out earlier in the day that required on). I use the same lavendar bath soap, massage after & then bed. He seems to equate bath-time with bedtime now so heaven help us if he needs a bath during the day. It tends to make for a cranky afternoon.

I put DS down for his naps the same way I do at night and he's STTN. I always wondered how he knew night time meant stay asleep longer than 45 minutes, but I guess his body just knows. Maybe changing it will work for the OP though.

Thanks for posting... although, if LO would, like the author's baby, go back to sleep after 5 minutes of nursing, that wouldn't be so bad. It's the sitting with her, trying to get her to go back to sleep for 45 minutes at a time that's killing me... personally, anyway. :)

DD was STTN now she does this. She takes a bit to get to sleep, then sleeps several hours and wakes only once, but getting her back to sleep is a PITA! Last night it took 3 hours! 3 fricken hours! I was literally hallucinating this morning trying to get DS off to school because this is the 3rd night in row of this. DS never STTN until 8m and then it was few and far between and he would go right back to sleep, I think I prefer that. BUT she is great baby, and sweet, cute, huggable, kissable, giggly, and all together fabulous.

I use an app on my phone/ipad for noise while LO sleeps. I use white noise for nap and nature sounds at night to try and keep them separate. Naps I just wrap a blanket around her (she's supervised), nurse and put her down. Bedtime I put on her night diaper, sleeper and sleep sack, turn on the crickets, nurse and put her down.
