My son does this thing where he moves his hands in a circular motion when he is excited. Sometimes he will do his hands and feet at the same time all in the same circular motion--almost like he is petting something. He sort of rolls his wrists around in a circle. I have never seen another baby do this. My husband (who is a psychiatrist) thinks this is normal.
However, I am concerned because I have a Fragile X pre-mutation and I know that "hand flapping" is one of the early signs of Fragile X Syndrome (it is also a sign of autism), but I don't know if this movement is considered hand flapping or not. (We met with a geneticist prior to going through infertility treatment and were told the odds of having a child with Fragile X were very low.)
I found this video online and what my son does with his hands and feet is very similar to what this kid does: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JJLv-eT528
Anyone else's LO do this? Thoughts? Input?
Re: XP: Is this normal?
Thanks! I appreciate your input.
I found another baby on an instructional video put on by an OT (occupational therapist) on you tube who was being used as the example baby for normal development of a baby at 10 months who was doing the same thing with his feet that my DS does with his hands and feet so I'm thinking it is normal. The kid was doing it during the entire video and the OT made no comment on it so I guess it is normal.

My LO (7 months) started doing this a few days ago! Mostly with her hands, but I just picture her finger painting on a canvas right in front of her when she does it. haha I chocked it up to another movement in her hands that she's learned she can do. Even wrist movement can be fascinating
